Alex Hudson of the Tamworth Kangaroos was crowned the 2012 Tony Gillies Medallist on Saturday night, winning the vote with 14 votes. Hudson is in just his second year in the TAFL, but has become an instrumental component of the Roos charge to the finals this year. Playing primarily on the wing, his run and carry, combined with a raking left foot, has earned him the praise from the umpires. His winning margin was 4 votes, sealing the win with a 1 vote performance in Round 16 against the Cats. David Richards from the Nomads and Andrew George from the Bulldogs were in equal second place on 10 votes, with Gavin Knee a further vote back in 4th place. Mike Gould and Leigh Turner were the best ranked Saints on 8 votes, with Jai Pursell leading the Cats also with 8 votes.
Earlier in the night, Hudson's teammate Lachlan Maloney recieved the Rising Star Award for best first or second year player aged under 25 years.
