The second quarter was all Central West as they couldn’t do a thing wrong. The TAFL was being beaten all over the ground, with only Ben Kennedy and the Saints Darren Pithers slowing Central West down. CWAFL 7-7-49 TAFL 2-3-15
Coach Dick Gleeson gave the team a great speech at half time and had the TAFL fired up for the third quarter. The TAFL boys were in everything in this with all players committed to going in hard for the ball. This really showed dividends with the TAFL kicking 6 goals to 1 goal for the quarter thanks to the efforts again of Ben Kennedy and Darren Pithers and they were very well supported by Alex Walker, Alex Dasey, Glen Northway and Johnathon Frost. CWAFL 8-9-57 TAFL 8-5-53
Being only 4 points down at the start of the last quarter the TAFL were right in the game and had their tails up pushing for the win. This was a great quarter of footy with neither team giving a centimetre. Josh McKenzie and Shaun Mansbridge were total rocks in defence with Evan Griffiths, Peter Dunlop and Clinton Ballagh providing run out of the defence. Glen Northway was proving to be a headache up forward for the Central West and Alex Walker, Mitch Firth and Ash Cruickshank created mayhem. Unfortunately, even when we again outscored Central West in this quarter, we lost the game by 2 points.
Final Score: CWAFL 9-10-64 TAFL 9-8-62
TAFL Goal Kickers: Alex Walker 2, Alex Dasey 2, Ash Cruickshank 1, Weston Whitby 1, Peter Dunlop 1, Glen Northway 1, Mitch firth 1
TAFL Best: Ben Kennedy, Darren Pithers, Shaun Mansbridge, Josh McKenzie, Alex Walker, Clinton Ballagh
Even though the TAFL didn’t win a game during the championship the TAFL Rep team gained invaluable experience that will not only benefit themselves, but their respective teams when they go back to club football. It has also inspired them to strive for the next regional championship in two year’s time. Well done to all.
