The Swans would have been disappointed by going out in week one of the 2010 finals after the ultimate in 2009. Having lost one of their best players in Lachlan Rowling, he returned to his old club Ungarie, before the 30th June deadline for clearances hurt the Swans big time. Rowling is a 2 time Tony Gillies Medallist, 2 time Premiership player and Graham Nuttal Medallist for best player in a Grand Final, you can't lose someone like that without it hurting the team. That and with a Premiership hangover the Swans did well to get to the finals.
So what for 2011? Well the Swans have been on a recruiting drive and got 4 new players so far with some more in their sights. Swans President, Josh McKenzie, says about the recruits "Coedie Sloane is a tall winger with great hands for Ungarie. Steven Scott can play and was a Norwood Junior in South Australia. We also have another player from SA that we are waiting for. The two Tassie boys, Marcus King and James Shelton, look pretty handy and have a big advantage having grown up playing the game. King is a formidable presence on the half-back line. We also have some of our 2009 players returning so things are looking good." McKenzie also said that "We will be coached again in 2011 by Garry Harriott. Garry coached the Swans to a preliminary final in 2003, and is keen to progress on the finals finish for the Swans 2010. Having played in the Geelong Reserves, Garry has a wealth of football knowledge and experience, and takes a very team orientated approach. This season he will be looking for a core group of senior players to have significant input into the team." On the training front McKenzie says they started training on the 25th of January.
Prediction: The Swans will finish no lower than 4th and could very easily finish the home and away season on top of the ladder.
