The 2011 season will see the Country Energy Tamworth AFL return to playing fourteen rounds, with two complete cycles of matches. This is opposed to the eighteen round, two and a half cycle draw used in 2007 and 2010. In 2011, the finals series will return to a five-team playoff rather than the four team play-off seen since 2008.
The season proper will start on the 30th of April 2011, the weekend after Easter and Anzac Day. The two weeks prior to Easter (9th and 16th of April) have been set aside for pre-season or trial matches. These will be full length matches akin to the home and away season, with the exact format still to be determined.
The final round (round 14) will see the Narrabri Eagles host the Muswellbrook Cats, the Gunnedah Bulldogs host the Inverell Saints, the Tamworth Kangaroos host the New England Nomads and the Tamworth Swans facing the bye. This will allow for travel considerations of all Clubs, with the 2011 Gillies medal Count function to be held in Gunnedah.
Full dates and fixtures are yet to be determined, with a number of considerations like general byes (to allow for rescheduling of washed out matches) and inter-league matches to affect the dates on which each match will be played, and consequentally dates for the finals series.
