Round 19 Saturday

Tracy Village Jets v Uni Rebels

The minor premier Uni Rebels overwhelmed the Tracy Village Jets 111-79 in a tune-up for this week’s top of the table clash with the Essington Cannons. The Rebels showed no mercy as they rattled off 25 points to just 11 in the first quarter and pushed that lead out to 48-27 at half time. Five players hit double figures for the Rebels with Tim Morris (28.6ppg) leading the way with 38. Adding to the Rebel total were Spencer Coleman (28.1ppg) with 25, Jake Kirby 21, Mitch Garton 13 and Jarrod Sheppard 11. Jake Geer (7.2ppg) led the Jets with 14, Ned Stevens added 11 and Liam Maclachlan & Dante Ah Sam 10 apiece.

Razzle Storm v Eagles

The Eagles shook off the Razzle Storm in the second half to win 88-73, but they were made to work for the win. The Storm had stayed with the Birds through half time with the scores locked at 39 each and only trailed by 5 at the end of three quarter time. The Eagles went into another gear at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The Birds lit up the scoreboard in the first three minutes as they strung together 12 unanswered points to go from 57-52 to 69-52 and the Storm never recovered. Anthony Golden (32.9ppg) hit a game high 28 for the Eagles with Joseph Johnson (17.9ppg) hitting 14, Zach Williams-Hook 12 and Jordan Sing 11. Fred Williams (27.6ppg) had 16 for the Storm with Nate Radonich on 15 and James Rudolph & Chris Mahlstedt 14 each.

Essington Cannons v Ansett

The Essington Cannons had too much firepower for Ansett to overcome despite the huge effort of Jerron Jamerson. The Cannons won easily 118-96 behind a double of 30 point games from Travis Ellis and Deba George who accounted for the league high of 55 points scored by Jamerson. Unfortunately for Jamerson (39.5ppg) he didn’t get as much help from his team mates as Ellis (21.1ppg) and George (23.3ppg) got. The Cannons held a 10 point 30-20 first quarter lead and bumped that up to 58-35 at half time and held on to that buffer for the rest of the game. Support for the Cannon duo came from Deola D’Brown Folarin (21.2ppg) with 22, Fisto Bizima 16 and Tobiasz Hose 10. Whereas only one other Blues player hit double figures to help Jamerson, Mitch O’Donoghue with 12. This was the second game in a row that Jamerson has hit 55 points. The loss by the Blues dropped them out of contention for the final playoff spot as they will lose out to Palmerston on the head-to-head countback.

Palmerston Power v Lightning

Palmerston topped the Lightning 80-56, but needed a concerted defensive effort in the third quarter to do it. The Power held a narrow one point 35-34 half time lead as the Lightning clung on in the hope of a victory. But the Power shut them down in the third quarter with a run of 28-9 to put the game out of reach. Opening the third quarter the Lightning actually scored first to lead at 38-35, but it was all downhill after that. The Power put the game away with a 13-0 run in 2 ½ minutes midway through the quarter! Willie Shackleford (21.5ppg) from the Power led all scorers with 25, Kyle Keirnan hit 18 and Garrett Hall had 14. For the Lightning Jesse Bell (21.8ppg) hit 22 and Cameron Bailey & Brodie Hertel hit 10 each.

Ladder:                                  Uni Rebels 17-2, Essington Cannons 14-5, Eagles 13-6, Palmerston Power 12-7, Ansett 10-9, Lightning 5-13, Razzle Storm 3-15& Tracy Village Jets 1-18
