Semi-Finals

League Women - Eagles v Lightning

Ieasha Friel notched up her second 30+pts game in a row to guide the Eagles to a knock-out semi-final 67-52 win against the Lightning. The win gets them a berth in the Preliminary Final to be played on Monday night against Ansett. Lightning bolted away from the Birds in the first quarter leading 13-2 after five minutes of play and looked like handing out a drubbing. But the Birds bounced back in the second quarter to trail at half-time by just 3 at 26-23. After the break the Birds took wing behind Friel to wipe out the deficit during a 23-11 run that turned the game around. Friel hit 14 of her game high 32 in the quarter as the Eagles took charge leading 46-37 with a quarter to play. They maintained the momentum in the fourth quarter with a 21-15 run to book a spot in the Prelim. Lillian Williams and Michelle Friel added 9 apiece in support of Friel. Dominique Carbone & Kahlee Stanislaus had 14 each for the Lightning.

Tracy Village Jets v Ansett

Minor premier Tracy Village Jets sent Ansett packing with a solid 63-47 win that sends them directly to the Grand Final. The upcoming GF will be their 13th straight appearance over the last seven years! And they have won them all. The Jets domination of the women’s league is unprecedented as no other team has been this successful…women or men. Kylie Duggan led the charge in this one scoring 20 points and dishing out a few on the way. Erin Geer hit 14 and Delsey Ah Wang 12 in support. The Bombers led by seven at half-time 30-23, bumped that up to 47-39 at three quarter time and finished it off in the last quarter with a 16-8 run for the win. Whoever gets to match up with them in the GF will have their hands full as they have history on their side. Ansett will have to regroup for their Prelim against the Eagles on Monday. Tal Yakov led the Blues with 21, but was the lone double figure scorer.

Ladder:                               Tracy Village Jets 17-2, Ansett 14-5, Eagles 12-7, Lightning 7-12, Palmerston Power 7-11, Razzle Storm 5-13 & Uni Rebels 3-15

Next week Preliminary:    Monday 27 November – Ansett v Eagles 6:30pm

Men

Semi-Finals

League Men – Uni Rebels v Essington Cannons

The Essington Cannons are into the Grand Final in their first year of League competition. The Cannons held off a last rally by the minor premier Uni Rebels to win a close one 85-81. A close encounter was on the cards and the teams provided the entertainment. At half time only three points separated the sides with the Cannons holding the edge 46-43. Deba George was leading the way for the Cannons, nailing 5 of his 7 three-pointers in the first half. By the end of three quarters of play the Cannons had built up an 8pt buffer leading 72-64. The Rebels put in a serious challenge that got them within 2pts at 77-75 after a bucket by Rebel Marcus Ch’ng at the 3 minute mark, but that was the last hurrah as the Cannons quickly added points from George and Deola D’Brown Folarin to give them breathing space. They held on for the win and a shot at GF celebrations should they keep on their winning ways. George finished with a team high 25, Tobiasz Hose 21, Travis Ellis 15 and D’Brown Folarin 14. For the Rebels Spencer Coleman hit a game high 27, Tim Morris had 22 and Ch’ng finished with 12.

Eagles v Palmerston Power

The Palmerston Power racked up their fourth win in a row by knocking the Eagles out of the playoffs 99-81. It was almost a repeat performance of last week’s win over the Birds in the last game of the regular competition. The Power managed to shut down the Eagles from the three point line and that played a big part in the victory. The Leagues leading three-point shooter, Anthony Golden, was held to just one from outside the line and the Birds only hit two for the game. The Power’s Garrett Hall took game scoring honours with 32 (including 5 treys), Willie Shackleford 19, Tom Godwin 12 and Kyle Keirnan 10. The Power hit the Birds hard in the first half leading by a massive 22pts and they didn’t let up for the remainder of the game. The win gives the Power a shot at the minor premiers Uni Rebels on Monday night. Zach Williams-Hook led the Birds with 25, Golden hit 24 and James Smith had 10.

Ladder:                                  Uni Rebels 18-4, Essington Cannons 17-5, Palmerston Power 15-7, Eagles 14-8, Ansett 12-9, Lightning 5-15, Razzle Storm 3-17 & Tracy Village Jets 1-20

Next week Preliminary:         Monday 27 November – Uni Rebels v Palmerston Power 8:00pm
