Round 18-Women

League Women - Lightning v Razzle Storm

Dominique Carbone (17.1ppg) hit 31 points for the second consecutive game as she led the Lightning to a big 87-47 win over the Razzle Storm. The win keeps them level with Palmerston who they are competing with for the fourth spot in the upcoming playoffs. After a close first quarter which the Lightning held sway at 18-12 they blasted past the Storm with a 28-8 second quarter run to take a winning grip on the game at half time 46-20. Veteran Peta Bailey (8.5pg) played a big part in the scoring as well hitting a season high 17 and Rebecca Thorne added 12 (all treys). The Storm got its points from team leaders Erin Boyd (18 @ 16.5ppg) and Lailani Triffitt (10) plus 10 from Mali Gordon.

Ansett v Tracy Village Jets

The Tracy Village Jets bumped off Ansett, but had to stage a come-from-behind effort to win 86-64. Ansett threw a scare into the Tracy Village Jets camp early in their match-up, but being the champions that they are the Jets prevailed in the end. The Blues held a 38-35 advantage at half time and looked like a chance to upset the league leaders. However, the Jets proved that they are the team to beat with a second half resurgence that saw them score 51 points to just 25 for the Blues. Tikesa Docherty-Cole (18.9ppg) hit a season high 34 with Erin Geer (17 @ 14.6ppg) and Kylie Duggan (16) adding their points to the tally. The Blue’s Tal Yakov (27.7ppg) showed true grit by leading all scorers with 41 (this seasons League high so far), the only player to reach double figures for Ansett. The defensive effort by the Jets shown out in this game as it did against the Eagles in their previous game.

Uni Rebels v Palmerston Power

Palmerston Power won on their home court 64-47 over the Uni Rebels. The win completed a clean sweep of the Rebels this competition. Louise Turner (14.1ppg) turned in a team and game high 30, her best of the season and she had support from Chiara Jones (8.4ppg) who also hit a season best with 22. The Power did enough in the first quarter to give them a big buffer as they outscored the Rebels 22-10. They just kept adding points to the total for the remainder of the game as the Rebels failed to mount any lasting challenge. Tiayana Sing (8.9ppg) led the Rebels with 14, Daniel Ponter 13 and Shavayah Lee 12.
