Round 6

League Women - Lightning v Eagles

Four players hit double figures as the Eagles soared above the Lightning on their way to a 76-51 victory on Thursday night. Lightning managed to hang tough for a good part of three quarters before the Birds lifted off in the last quarter with a 28-12 run to put the icing on the cake. The Eagles had led 35-27 at the half time break and 48-39 at the end of three, but the last quarter overwhelmed the Lightning. Ieasha Friel (24.2ppg) led the Birds with 24, Tulahah Jeffrey (15ppg) hit 15, Jaylene Boundry 14 and Michelle Friel 11. Kira Pendlebury (11.6ppg) hit 12 for the Lightning with Georgia Dawson adding 11.

Razzle Storm v Ansett

Ansett fell just short of a ton as they clobbered the Razz Storm 98-51 to remain the only undefeated team in League so far this season, women or men! The Blues jumped all over the Storm in the first quarter with a 25-8 run to set up the win and they did much the same for the remainder of the game, scoring over twenty points in each quarter. Tal Yakov who is leading the league in points per game (25.8) and total points (129) led all scorers with a season and league high 33 points. Four others hit double figures with Alison Fleming (8ppg) getting 17, Clancy Dorman & Tamiyah Perkins 13 each and Carolyn Nyhouse 10. Lailani Triffitt (14.6ppg) led the Storm with 19 and Erin Boyd (15.4ppg) added 18.

Palmerston Power v Tracy Village Jets

Tania Dhu & Delsey Ah Wang led the Tracy Village Jets to their fourth win of the season, a dominating 83-48 win against the Palmerston Power. Dhu (10.8ppg) knocked down 20 points and Ah Wang (9.6ppg) added 19 (season high) as the Bombers won their second consecutive game. A strong start to the game with a 22-10 first quarter run that built to a 38-19 half time lead signaled the eventual outcome. Erin Geer (15.3ppg) tallied 14, Tikesa Docherty-Cole 12 and Kylie Duggan 10 while Brittany Ward (22.5ppg) & Shauna Bastick hit 12 apiece for the Power and Mikaella Desamito 10.

   Round 6

League Men – Essington Cannons v Uni Rebels

The Uni Rebels ran the Essington Cannons off the court to the tune of 121-57. A first quarter blitz of 39-7 set the tempo as five players enjoyed reaching double figures for the game. Tim Morris (30.6ppg) led all scorers with a game and season high 38 (including 4 treys). By half time the Rebels were up 67-24 with no letup in sight for the Cannons who were struggling to keep pace. Morris had plenty of support from Spencer Coleman (24.5ppg) who hit 31, Mitchel Garton with 22 Jake Kirby with 12 and returnee Jarrod Sheppard with 10. The addition of Sheppard to the already formidable lineup for the Rebels will add defensive headaches to the rest of the competition. Deola D’Brown Folarin (15ppg) was the lone standout for the Cannons with 12.

Lightning v Eagles

The Lightning stunned the Eagles with a last quarter rally that ended the Birds undefeated season 92-85. Trailing by 11 at the beginning of the last quarter (73-62) the Lightning pumped in 10 unanswered points to trail by just one point after three minutes of play. It was then basket for basket until the Lightning went on 8 point spurt that put them up 87-82 with 1:29 left to play. The Birds weren’t finished just yet though and got to within 2pts at 87-85 with a minute left, but that was the end for them as Craig Martin (14.3ppg) nailed a three-pointer with 24 seconds remaining to end the scoring. Lightning had scored 30 points to just 12 for the Eagles in the last quarter. Martin hit 13 of his 24 also in the last quarter. The return of Austin Kisselev had a big impact on the game and his presence will also put the Lightning in the end of season playoff picture. Kisselev led all scorers with 27 and Jesse Bell (22ppg) hit 14. All of the Eagle players hit double figures with Jordan Sing (19.6ppg) leading the way with 26, Joseph Johnson 21, Steven Sing 14 and James Smith & Kevin Woolley 12 each.

Tracy Village Jets v Palmerston Power

Ben Streeter led the Palmerston Power to a convincing 82-63 win over the Tracy Village Jets on Friday night leaving the Jets still without a win this season. Streeter (10.6ppg) nailed 6 three-pointers in his 20 point season high for the Power. The Power hit 12 treys all total for a 27 point difference outside the line between the teams…the Jets hit only 3. That was the tale as once the Power hit the front they were never challenged. The Jets trailed by just 10 at the half 42-32 due to some good shooting from Jayden Adams and Joel Stevens, but once the Power made a 20 point break early in the last quarter it remained so for the rest of the game. Streeter had help from Willie Shackleford (19.4popg) with 19, Tom Godwin 16 and Garrett Hall 13. Dante Ah Sam (10.1ppg) led the Jets with 16, Stevens finished with 13 and Adams 10.

Razzle Storm v Ansett

Jerron Jamerson equaled his season and league high 48 points to lead Ansett to an easy 96-45 victory against the Razzle Storm. Jamerson (34.1ppg) hit the court running, scoring the first 9 points for the Blues as they powered away to a 22-14 first quarter lead that blew out to a 40-25 half time advantage. By the end of three quarters the Blues held a 34 point lead at 66-32. Game over. Robert Skinner (19.6ppg) popped in 22 to back up Jamerson. Fred Williams (27ppg) from the Storm hit 25 and Chris Mahlstedt 11.
