DBA League Results – 10 & 11 August 2017

League Women - Eagles v Ansett

Ansett knocked off the Eagles 84-67 for their second win in as many games this season. The Eagles spotted the Blues an 18 point lead after one quarter of play at 29-11. By the half time break new recruit Tal Yakov had hit 13 of her game high 21 to lead the Blues to 49-33 advantage. The Eagles reduced the lead to 12 by the end of the third quarter (66-54), but they were struggling to gain any lasting momentum. The Blues on the other hand played consistently throughout for the win. Yakov had support from Tamiyah Perkins with 19 and Ruta Valiulyte with 17. Ieasha Friel led the Birds with 20, Tulahah Jeffrey hit 15, Alysha-Marie Williams 11 and Michelle Friel 10.

Tracy Village Jets v Razzle Storm

The Tracy Village Jets rolled the Razzle Storm 85-36, but it wasn’t until the second half that they really took off. The Storm managed to hang tough during the first half (trailing 33-24) due to some good shooting from Erin Boyd, but after the break the Jets hit the after burners and blew the Storm away. The Jets allowed the Storm only 12 points in the second half while scoring 52. Tikesa Docherty-Cole had the hot hand for the Jets, hitting a game high 24 followed by Erin Geer on 15 and Kylie Duggan 14. Boyd finished up with 15 for the Storm.

Lightning v Uni Rebels

Danielle Ponter hit 15 points to lead the Uni Rebels to their first win of the season, a close 53-48 victory over the Lightning. The Rebels were up by 11 with about 8 minutes remaining, but the Lightning gave it one last push to get with 4 at 47-43 with 4 minutes left. However, that was it as the Rebels regained some momentum to hold back the Lightning for the win. Backing up Ponter was Kayllah Motlop with 13. Kira Pendlebury hit 11 for the Lightning and Rebecca Thorne had 10.

Men

League Men – Essington Cannons v Palmerston Power

Palmerston Power staged a second half fightback to slip past the Essington Cannons 78-67. The Cannons had forged ahead in the first half behind 20 points from Travis Ellis to take a 41-33 lead into the break. A huge third quarter offensive by the Power (26-7), however, wiped out the Cannon advantage and they found themselves trailing 59-48 going into the last quarter. The Power maintained their lead during the fourth quarter and claimed victory handing the Cannons their first loss of the competition. Six players from the Power hit double figures with Kyle Keirnan leading the way with 18, Jai Weetra 13, Liam Napier 12, Willie Shackleford & Tom Godwin 11 each and Aaron Simpson with 10. Ellis finished with a game high 31 for the Cannons with Fisto Bizima adding 16.

Eagles v Ansett

Anthony Golden nailed 8 treys in his 39 point haul to send the Eagles soaring past Ansett 113-93. Golden and Kevin Woolley came out firing in the first quarter as they lofted up 23pts between them to give the Birds a 32-14 lead. The Blues never really recovered. By half time the Birds were up 59-40. The Blues picked up a few points with a 28-23 third quarter run, but the Birds took wing again in the fourth quarter outscoring the Blues 31-25 for victory. Golden had help from four other players in double figures; David Oates hit a personal high 25, Jordan Sing 20, Woolley finished with 16 and James Smith had 13. Jerron Jamerson hit a team high 30 for the Blues with Brad Davis on 16 and Max Davies & Robert Skinner on 14 apiece.

Lightning v Uni Rebels

The Uni Rebels charged away from the Lightning in the second and third quarters to register an easy 80-57 win…their first of the season. The Rebels only led by 4 after one quarter, but ran off 26 points to just 12 for the Lightning in the second quarter to open the game up. At the half it was 39-21 the Rebels way and they didn’t let up, posting 41 points to 36 in the second half to win going away. A season high 29 from Spencer Coleman led the way with Tim Morris chipping in with 25, and Marcus Ch’ng & Mitchell Garton on 10 each. Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson hit 18 and Jesse Bell 15 for the Lightning

Razzle Storm v Tracy Village Jets

Highlight of the round!! The Razzle Storm beat the Tracy Village Jets 86-62 to end the longest losing streak in DBA history. The last time the Storm won was back on the 12th of October 2015 and it was a 70-62 win over…you guessed it, the Jets! Definitely cause for celebration. Newcomer Fred Williams has game and he showed it here with 34 points getting support from Chris Mahlstedt (15), Daniel Calcatera (14) and Nathan Radonich (13). The Storm kicked off the win with a strong 23-15 run in the first quarter and led 46-34 at the break. The second half was similar with the Storm outscoring the Jets 40-28 to run out winners. Joel Stevens & Jason O’Donoghue led the Jets with 12 apiece and Dante Ah Sam added 11.
