Round 14

League Women -  Tracy Village Jets v Eagles

Tracy Village kept the Eagles grounded for the second time this season as they roared home with a 74-44 win that won them the minor premiership for this competition. The Eagles are the only team to inflict a loss on the Jets this season and they will be hard pressed to do so again when the finals begin. The Bombers have regained their confidence since that loss and it will take a mighty effort by any of the other pretenders to stop them from winning another championship. Four players hit double figures for the Jets with Erin Geer (13.4ppg) leading the way with 20, Tikesa Docherty-Cole 15, Kylie Duggan 13 and Tania Dhu 12. The lone player in double figures for the Eagles was the league’s leading scorer Ieasha Friel (28ppg) with 22.

Uni Rebels v Ansett

Ansett dumped the Uni Rebels 83-61 to grab a share of third spot on the ladder with the Rebels. The Blues are a mere .34% pts behind the Rebels. Carolyn Nyhouse (16.1ppg) & Ruta Valiulyte (10.9ppg) hit 25 each to help the Blues power to victory as the team continues to make huge steps forward in their quest for a Grand Final spot. The Blues are on a four game winning streak and will be tested in their next two games which are against the Tracy Village Jets. The Blues held an eight- point lead for most of the game, but broke it wide open in the last quarter with a 27-13 run to finish up. Clancy Dorman (11) & Amelia Short (10) lent support for the Blues while the Uni Rebels were led by Jaylene Boundry (8.4ppg) with 19, Jasmyn Hewett 18 and Jaylene Bonson 13 (15.2ppg).

Razzle Storm v Lightning

The Razzle Storm won a 48-46 nail-biter against the Lightning, spoiling the 300th League game celebration by Lightning’s Peta Bailey. The teams traded the lead throughout the game and it wasn’t until the Storm’s Erin Boyd (13.4ppg) hit a bucket with 1:09 left in the game for a 47-46 lead that they thought it possible to win. Lightning of course scrambled to get possession of the ball for a final shot, but their efforts only succeeded in putting Kaylena Marimowa on the free throw line with 10 seconds left. Marimowa hit one freebie for the final scoreline. Lightning failed to convert after the free throws leaving them still without a win. Boyd finished with 19 and Lailani Triffett (13.4ppg) added 11. Rebecca Thorne (8.2ppg) had 12 for Lightning with Samantha Wilson on 11 and Dominique Carbone (14ppg) on 10.  Congratulations to Peta on her achievement.

Men

League Men – Eagles v HPP

The league leading Eagles swooped past the HPP by 42 points in their dominating 103-61 outing. A monstrous 31-6 first quarter by the minor premiers set the stage and it didn’t get any better for the HPP during the remainder of the game. Only one player on the Eagle roster of seven didn’t hit double figures in the match. Anthony Golden (31ppg) led from the front with 28 and Jordan Sing (12ppg) had 19. The score at half time was 51-15…pretty much game over. Max Davies (15ppg) had 14 and Jai Weetra 10 for the HPP.

Tracy Village Jets v Palmerston Power

The return of Ross Vasic to the Tracy Village Jets line-up brought immediate results as the Bombers upset the Palmerston Power 80-69. The win gives them a very outside chance of making the final four depending on the outcome of other games played next week providing, of course, that they themselves win v the Razzle Storm. Vasic nailed 6 treys in his team high 22 points with Joel Stevens adding 19, Jackson Tremlett 14 and Alex Weetra 12. Scores were tied up at the half 34 all and it was a third quarter turn-around that won the game for the Bombers when they outscored the Power 23-13. The buffer proved to be the winning margin. Fisto Bizima (20.9ppg) from the Power led all scorers with 29 (including 6 treys) with Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson & Jai Weetra hitting 13 apiece.

Ansett v Uni Rebels

Tim Morris (32.3ppg) scored 34 and Spencer Coleman 21 (24.3pg) as the Uni Rebels slipped past Ansett 92-74 to grab second place on the ladder on percentage points over the Blues. The Rebels are now 7-1 (4th in a row) since a round 5 defeat to the league leading Eagles and will go into the playoffs on 2 June with a very good chance of making it to the big dance on the 17th of June. The Rebels had built up a 12 point lead by half time at 49-37 and kicked it up to 71-51 by the end of three quarters. The Blues got 32 points from Max Davies (16.3ppg) and Jerron Jameson (33.5ppg) hit 23, but that was the extent of their big scoring output. Morris and Coleman had help from Jake Eyles with 11 and Marcus Ch’ng 10.

Razzle Storm v Lightning

Austin Kisselev (27.2ppg) hit a season high 41 to lead the Lightning to a big 95-61 win over the luckless Razzle Storm who have yet to put a ‘w’ in the win column. Kisselev owned the keyway as he put up 17 two pointers and 7 from the charity stripe. Adding to the Storm’s woes Craig Martin (17ppg) hit 20, Brodie Hertel 11 and Dylan De Santis 10. At the half time break Lightning led 46-30. By the start of the last quarter they held a 73-45 advantage and were storming away. The Storm got 16 points from both Karsten Oltrop (9.4ppg) & Daniel Calcatera (11.1ppg) and 10 from James Rudolph.

Ladder:                   Eagles 12-1, Uni Rebels & Ansett 10-3, Lightning & Palmerston Power 6-7 Tracy Village Jets 5-8, HPP 3- 10 & Razzle Storm 0-13
