League Women Round 5 - Tracy Village Jets v Palmerston Power

The Tracy Village Jets clobbered the Palmerston Power 87-52 to remain undefeated for the season and well and truly the favourite for the minor premiership & Grand Final. With just four rounds to go the Jets can be reasonably assured of the minor premiership and another Grand Final win also seems to be fairly certain. This win was their 30th in a row and apart from a sluggish start to the game the Jets were still out in front 19-12 after a quarter of play. By halftime it was 45-23 and at three quarter time it was 63-38 and getting progressively worse for the Power. Six Jets hit double figures with Sam Rioli collecting 22, Kylie Duggan 15, Leah Seden 14  and Tikesa Docherty-Cole, Frances Fatowna & Erin Geer 10 apiece. The Power were led by Brittany Ward on 14 and Jeska Matthews with 11.

Men

Uni Rebels v Ansett

In the match up of the round Ansett prevailed over the Uni Rebels with and exciting come from behind 86-82 win that took them back into first place on the ladder. The Uni Rebels were the team of the moment having won six games in a row to charge into the final four. Their last loss was to the Blues in Round 12. This time around the Rebels looked set to pinch the win as they led 64-57 heading into the last quarter. However, a momentum shift to the Blues gave them a chance. Mitch O’Donoghue came through with flying colours for the Blues as he hit four treys during a 21-10 run that put the Blues up 78-74 with 4 minutes remaining. A series of trips to the charity stripe for the Rebels and a three-pointer by Chad Bewley at the 57 seconds left mark made it 84-82 and that was it for the Rebels as the Blues hung on for their 13th win of the season. Jerron Jamerson topped the scoring for the game with 31 for the Blues, Brad Davis hit 21, Max Davies 16 & O’Donoghue finished with 12. Leading the Rebels was Jerrell Sanders with 28, Jake Kirby hit 21 (including 5 treys), Kurt Faux 13 & Bewley 12. And…the two teams match up again next Friday!

Tracy Village Jets v Palmerston Power

Palmerston punished an undermanned Tracy Village Jets outfit that only had six players suited up. The Power won 96-61 and they did it with a flourish wrapping up the game with an explosive 32-15 run in the last quarter. The Power charged away in the first quarter 27-13, led by almost 20 at three quarter time (64-46) and then blew the Jets off the court. Jesse Bell hit 24, Fisto Bizima 16, Aaron Simpson 13, Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson 12 and Ben Streeter 11. Liam MacLachlan led the Bombers with 17, Jackson Tremlett 15, Rohan Cropley 11 and William Burton 10.

Lightning v Razzle

Lightning climbed to within ½ a game of the Rebels who are just in front of them on the ladder with a decisive 98-73 victory over the Razzle. With 3rd and 4th places still up for grabs between three teams every win is critical. Austin Kisselev once again led the Lightning with 30 points followed by Craig Martin with 25, Cameron Bailey 11 and Tom Maher 10. The Lightning scored +20 in each quarter, leading 44-32 at the half and 72-46 by the end of three quarters. The margin proved too great to overcome for the Razzle although they did outscore the Lighting 27-26 in the last frame. Reed Ridder hit a game high 31 and Brendan Dell added 21.

Ladder:       Ansett 13-2, Eagles 12-4, Rebels 9-7, Lightning 9-6, Palmerston Power 8-7, Tracy Village Jets 3-13 & & Razzle 0-15
