League Women Round 14 - Tracy Village Jets v Eagles

The Tracy Village Jets made it a clean sweep of wins over the Eagles for the season (3-0) with a 78-56 victory on Thursday night. On a positive note for the Eagles the loss was the closest encounter they have had with the Bombers this year! Leading by just 2pts after one quarter of play the Bombers stepped it up a notch to outscore the Eagles 26-13 in the second quarter to take a 20pt 58-38 lead at the break. That 20pt buffer remained throughout the rest of the game with the Eagles failing to make any inroads into it. The win is the 29th in a row for the Jets. Erin Geer led the charge for the Jets with 28 followed by 15 each from Kylie Duggan (17.9ppg) & Tikesa Docherty-Cole (21.6ppg). Trish Graham (15.7ppg) led the Birds with 16 with Michelle Friel & Kristina Martinson adding 10 apiece.

Ansett v Palmerston Power

Ansett claimed the scalp of Palmerston with a surprise 71-68 upset that thrilled the Blues to no end. Winning only their third game of the competition the undermanned Blues had four of their six players in double figures by the end of the game. Ansett led for almost the whole game only falling behind once when Samantha Wilson hit a bucket to put the Power up 68-66 with just 54 seconds remaining. The lead was short lived though as five seconds later Tamiyah Perkins (9.7ppg) nailed a three-pointer to put the Blues up for good as they held the Power scoreless for the remainder of the match. Ruta Valiulyte (11ppg) top scored for the Blues with 19, Perkins finished with 16 and Sophia Hatzismalis & Erin Boyd added 12 each. The Power got 14 from Brittany Ward (16.6ppg), 11 each from Rebecca Thorne & Louise Turner and 10 from Wilson. Ansett may not make the finals, but they could have an effect on who finishes in the top four.

Lightning v Razzle

For the third straight time in less than two weeks the Lightning have beaten the Razzle. One game went into overtime but the other two went according to plan. The Lightning won this one very easily 70-29, no-where near the exciting 65-60 overtime win from last Friday week. The Razzle struggled to score with only six players suited up, but that didn’t take away the effort the Lightning put into the encounter. Everybody scored for the Lightning with Hayley Hendrickson (17.8ppg) hitting a team high 19 to lead the way. Grace Morcom also hit double figures with 10. For the Razzle Lailani Triffitt hit 12.

Men

Tracy Village Jets v Lightning

Austin Kisselev (29.8ppg) notched up his 6th +30pt game as he led the Lightning to an easy 93-67 win over the Tracy Village Jets. Kisselev racked up 38 mostly from inside the keyway which is where he has been having the most success throughout the season. Craig Martin (24.9ppg) added 25 and Cam Bailey 8. The Jets started well and led after one quarter 23-15, but the Lightning turned it around in the second quarter to take a 2pt half time lead at 38-36. The third quarter proved fatal for the Bombers as the Lightning bolted away on a 31-14 run leaving the Jets well in arrears trailing by 19 with only a quarter to play. It was too much of an ask as they dropped their 12th game of the competition. Ross Vasic continued his accurate shooting from outside the arc hitting 5 treys within his 19 point haul to lead the Bombers with Michael MacLean getting 16 and Jackson Tremlett 10.

Uni Rebels v Razzle

The Razzle continue to loose despite putting up huge numbers against their opposition. This time they dropped the game to the Uni Rebels who had to rally to win. The Rebels did win 106-99, but they had to stage a come-from-behind act to do it. There was never much more than 11 points between the sides and the Razzle were holding a 95-90 lead with just over four minutes to play after consecutive treys from Daniel Calcatera & Jeremy Baden. The teams then traded baskets before the Rebels hit a purple patch with 2:37 remaining. The Rebels scored nine unanswered points to lead 103-99 with 23 seconds left after a three-pointer from Jake Kirby (15.9ppg) and that ended any chance the Razzle had of getting their first win of the season. Rebel Jerrell Sanders (26.9ppg) led all scorers with a game high 41, Chad Bewley (25.9ppg) hit 32, Kirby 18 (6 treys) and Kurt Faux 10. Reed Ridder 930.6ppg) led from the front for the Razzle with 36, Brendan Dell had 22 and Nathan Radonich 16.

Eagles v Palmerston Power

The Eagles put up big numbers against Palmerston for the second time this season with a 95-71 victory to clean sweep the Power during regulation games. Joseph Johnson & Alex Fertig got the Birds off to a quick 5-0 start and kept up the pressure throughout 3 quarters as the outscored the Power 75-45 during that time. The Power ran up 26 points to 20 in the last quarter, but it was a long way off of what was needed to get back into the game. Fertig (34.8ppg) finished with a game high 28, Johnson 20, Jordan Sing 15 and Jesse Williams-Hook 12 while Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson (16.4ppg) hit a team high 15 for the Power with Jai Weetra adding 13, Fisto Bizima 11 and Jesse Bell 10.
