Rounds Eight & Ten

League Women Rd 8 - Thursday – Razzle v Tracy Village Jets

The Razzle were no match for the league leading Tracy Village Jets as the Green & Gold were well and truly beaten 106-21. The Bombers rattled off 15 unanswered points in the first five minutes of the game to run their record to 7-0 for this competition and lifted their unbeaten streak to 23. Tikesa Docherty-Cole bumped up her game average (23.7ppg) with 34 points to lead the Bombers while Kylie Duggan added 22 (20ppg), Erin Geer 18 and Leah Seden 13. The lone standout for the Razzle was Lailani Triffett with 13. Docherty-Cole now leads the league in points scored and average per game.

Palmerston Power v Eagles

Brittany Ward (18.2ppg) set up the Palmerston Power 69-39 win against the Eagles with a 10 point flurry in the first quarter as the Power set themselves up for the win with a 23-12 lead. The Eagles failed to respond to the challenge and the Power just kept adding on the points, their biggest win over the Eagles on record. The win also solidifies second place on the ladder for the Power who are now 4-3. Ward finished up with a game high 16, Haven Hohipa-Wilson hit 13 and Edith Boundry had 10. Michelle Friel (12.6ppg) led the Eagles with 15 and Trish Graham (14.4ppg) hit 13.

Ansett v Lightning

Lightning duo Dominique Carbone & Hayley Hendricksen (18.6ppg) hit 17 points apiece to lead their team to a 75-58 victory over Ansett. Nothing much separated the two side for three quarters but the Lightning stepped up in the last quarter as the side outgunned the Blues 28-14 to run away with the game. The Blues tried to stay with the Lightning through Ruta Valiulyte and Tamiyah Perkins, but they just ran out of puff in the end. Kira Pendlebury also hit double figures for the Lightning with 14. Valiulyte took game high scoring honours with a season and League high 23 with Perkins on 13 and Erin Boyd 11.

Men

League Men – Rd 10 - Thursday – Tracy Village Jets v Uni Rebels

The Uni Rebels charged into an early first quarter lead and shut down the challenges the Tracy Village Jets leveled at them to win their encounter 76-66. The 25-10 first quarter burst led to a 42-29 half time lead. Another big run of 21-11 in the third quarter put the Rebels in a good winning position as the Bombers trailed by 23 with a quarter to play. The Jets did challenge, reeling off 12pts to 4 to open the quarter, but the Rebels reasserted their dominance through Jerrell Sanders (26ppg) & Kurt Faux to finally break a three game losing streak. Sanders led the Rebels with 25 (including 6 treys), Jake Kirby hit 17 and Chad Bewley 15. For the Jets Travis Ellis (24.8ppg) led from the front with 18, Liam MacLachlan 14 and Jackson Tremlett 12.

Lightning v Eagles

The second placed Eagles beat Lightning for the second time this season with an 81-68 win to take a 2 game lead over third place Palmerston whom they play next week. This game was a hard slog for the Birds as they very slowly pulled away from the Lightning. By three quarter time the Birds held a 65-50 lead with only 10 minutes to play. The Lightning did outscore the Birds in the fourth, but it was by only two points 18-16, not quite enough to snatch the win. Alex Fertig (38.8ppg) had the hot hand for the Eagles with 28 (including 5 treys), Joseph Johnson 18 and Reece Turner 15. Alex Kisselev (27.6ppg) from the Lightning took game honours with 29, Craig Martin 15 and Cameron Bailey 11.

Razzle v Ansett

Jerron Jamerson (39.6ppg) almost beat Razzle single-handed as he filled the hoop to the tune of 52 points in leading the Blues to a record setting 135-79 victory. Six Ansett players including Jamerson hit double figures in the match. The record set is for the most combined points scored by two teams: 214 in total. The Blues scored over 30 points in three quarters just missing out by 1 point in the other one. A 33-16 first quarter inspired by Jamerson (14 for the quarter) set the Blues on their way. By half time the score was 62-32. Brad Davis chipped in with 21, Freddy Webb 14, Joseph Stewart 12, Max Davies & Andrew Furness 10 each. Reed Ridder (27.2ppg) led the Razzle with 30, Daniel Calcatera 27 (including 7 treys) and Tiernan Chappell 10.
