Round 5

League Women Thursday – Razzle v Ansett

Liz Paice knocked down 28 points for the second time this season to lead Ansett to a 68-54 victory over the Razzle, the Blues second win of the competition. The green and gold are now ensconced on the bottom of the ladder. After a close first quarter the Blues found the range in the second as they peppered the hoop for 22 points to just 11 for Razzle as the Blues built up a 35-25 half time lead. Paice lifted her game in the second half to nail 17 of her total as the Blues ran away from the green and gold despite a determined effort from Erin Boyd who dropped in a season high 22 points. Paice had support from Tamiyah Perkins who hit 14. Boyd had help from Jessica Osborne (12) and Lailani Triffitt (10).

Tracy Village Jets v Eagles

Tracy Village’s dominance over its Women’s League opposition was on display again, this time against the Eagles who were undefeated until running into the Jets on Friday night. The Bombers thrashed the Eagles 68-40 holding the Birds to just 18 first half points while taking a commanding 37-18 half time lead. Danielle Totham (18), Tikesa Docherty-Cole (13) and Delsey Ah Wang (12) all hit double figures as the Bombers racked up win number 5 in a row to remain the only undefeated women’s team in the competition. Michelle Friel was the only Eagle in double figures with 16.

Uni Rebels v Lightning

Lightning won their second consecutive game with a minor upset of the Uni Rebels 55-34. The ‘Big’s’ for the Lightning did most of the damage inside the keyway with Kira Pendlebury leading the way with a game high 15. Emma Carbone is settling back into the Lightning transition game and she lent backup to Pendlebury with her best showing of the season with 13 points. Lightning didn’t allow the Rebels any chance as they posted a 15-2 first quarter lead that ballooned out to 29-8 at half time…game over. Nobody reached double figures for the Rebels, but Chantelle Lee, Kalisha Rioli & Ambah Kowcun all chipped in with 7.

League Men Thursday – Razzle v Tracy Village Jets

The Tracy Village Jets had to pull out all stops to defeat the Razzle 72-62. The Bombers lifted off for a 29-16 first quarter lead and looked set to romp and stomp, but the green and gold came storming back in the second quarter behind David Carroll and Saxon Radecki who led a gritty fight-back during a 21-13 run to trail by just 5 points at half time 42-37. By the end of three quarters the Jets held an 8 point lead and only a solid team effort in the last quarter got the Bombers across the line in front of the fast finishing Razzle. Darrin Weetra led the Bombers with 23 (including 7 treys!) and Jake Geer added 17. The Razzle got 21 points from player/coach Rob Oliver and 12 from Carroll.

Uni Rebels v Lightning

The Uni Rebels snuck past the Lightning 71-65 in a close matchup between the top two sides. The Rebels are now the only undefeated team in the men’s competition after handing the Lightning their only loss so far. Tim Morris was again at the forefront of scoring for the Rebels, leading the way with 25. Brad Jachmann added 16 and Aaron Simpson 10. This game was close all the way with the Lightning actually leading at half time 44-42. After the break though the Rebels challenged with a 15-9 run to take a 57-53 lead into the last quarter. Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson from Lightning had a great first half scoring 18 of his team high 20, but was held to just 2pts in the second half and that took most of the wind out of Lightning’s attack. Morris and Jachmann for the Rebels on the other hand just kept firing away, helping the Rebels to hang on for the win. Harry Fuge was the other double figure scorer for the Lightning with 10.

Ansett v Eagles

The Eagle men notched up the biggest score of the season with a 105-72 thumping of last season’s runner-ups Ansett. Chris Hart and Jessie Williams-Hook led a spirited first quarter run of 24-15 to get the ball rolling and the Birds followed that up with a 26-12 second quarter for a winning 50-27 lead at the major break. The Blues lifted their game in the second half behind Jake Feeney and Matteo Rowse, but so did the Eagles as they romped home with a 55-45 second half effort for the win. Hart finished with a game high 33, Reece Turner & Mike Bishop 16 each, Williams-Hook 15, Chris Stewart 14 and Henry Bui 11. Rowse led the Blues with 22, Feeney finished with 19 and Matt Flanegan 10.
