League Women –Tracy Village Jets v Ansett

Tracy Village had to weather a concerted effort from Ansett to wiggle out of what would have been the biggest upset of the year. The Jets won the match 59-55 in what is the closest encounter they have had since a loss seventeen games ago. The Jets had to pull out all stops in the last quarter to overhaul a 5 point lead the Blues had built up through Sam Drescher, Ashton Eaton and Remii Watts-Smith. The Blues went into the last quarter leading 46-41 before Bomber captain-coach Sam Rioli (16.1ppg) ignited the fight-back by hitting nine of her game high 20 points to deny the Blues the win. Defensively the Blues managed to hold the league’s leading scorer, Abby Cubillo, well under her average of 26.6 points a game, she had 11, but the Bombers have way too many other scorers who can light up the scoreboard given the chance. Keisha Tinley from the Jets also hit double figures with 10. Drescher (15.7ppg) finished up with 16 while Eaton (14ppg) and Watts-Smith both had 10. The Jets undefeated streak is now at 16.

Eagles v Lightning

Lightning failed to suit up the required number of players for game. Forfeit to the Eagles 20-0.

Ladder after Round 14:                                Tracy Village Jets 12-0, Eagles 6-6, Lightning 4-8 & Ansett 3-10 – Ladder includes forfeits

Next week Round 15:                                   Ansett v Lightning 6:15pm & Eagles v Tracy Village Jets 7:45pm

League Men – Uni Rebels v Lightning

The duo of Tim Morris (27.1ppg) and John King (28.4ppg) combined for 70 points as they led the Uni Rebels to a 97-66 thumping of the Lightning. The Lightning had no answer for the pair as they scored seemingly at will throughout the game. The Rebels only led by 3 points after one quarter of play, but put it all together in the second and third quarters when they outscored the Lightning 53-29. Harry Fuge (12.2ppg) top scored for the Lightning with 23, his best of the season, but the rest of the side struggled to put the ball in the hoop. Karsten Oltrop (11.1ppg) helped out with 16, but no others hit double figures. For the Rebels Morris ended up with a total of 39, King had 31 and Jake Kirby added 13. Rebel Alex Hamriding hit the court for his 738th League game, just one game behind tying Dahlia Docherty for the DBA all time record of 739.

Razzle v Eagles

The Eagles racked up the biggest tally of the season as they overran the Razzle 130-50. After losing to Ansett on Friday night the Birds took all of their frustration out on an undermanned Razzle outfit that was no match for the rampaging Eagles. James Silvie (22.5ppg) notched up the biggest individual score of the season with 50 big ones. Team mate Chris Hart (23.4ppg) added a personal high 38 and Reece Turner (19.3ppg) hit 15. The lone standout for the green and gold was William McClay (7.6ppg) with a season high 27.

Palmerston Power v Ansett

Ansett hit the tonne for the third time this season as they tallied 100-43 in a surprising blow-out over the Palmerston Power. Five players from the Blues hit double figures with Donte Nicholas (33.3ppg) leading the pack with 23, Tom Hunt 18, Matteo Rowse 16 and Matt Hunt & Joshua Gericke with 13 apiece. Considering the line-up for the Power it was a very disappointing outing for a team that showed promise earlier in the season.

Ladder after Round 14:                                 Uni Rebels 9-3, Eagles & Tracy Village Jets 7-4, Ansett 7-5, Lightning 6-6, Palmerston Power 3-9, & Razzle 2-10 – Ladder includes forfeits
