The Tracy Village Jets screamed past Ansett 82-34 for their 15th straight win this season to remain undefeated. The win is also their 22nd in a row going back to May of this year. The Bombers ran up a 19-8 first quarter score line, stretched that out with a 25-13 second quarter run for a big 44-21 half time lead and cruised through the second half for victory. Abby Cubillo (11ppg) pumped in a team and game high 23 points for the Jets with four others in double figures. Sam Drescher (18.5ppg) led the Blues with 15.

Uni Rebels v Lightning

Jaylene Bonson continued her good form of the past few weeks with a team and game high 18 points to lead the Uni Rebels to a 56-32 win against the Lightning. The Rebels finally got a win over their arch-rivals after losing in Round 3 and getting a draw in Round 8. The Rebels kept the Lightning from scoring in double figures in every quarter. Lightning trailed 18-29 at half time, got within 8 at the end of three quarters of play at 35-27, but fell apart in the last quarter as the Rebels rolled over them 21-5 for the final score line. Bonson (12.8ppg) had support from Dana Rommel (18ppg) with 16 and Tamara Sheppard (14.6ppg) with 11. Tahnee Lew Fatt (3.2ppg) led the Lightning with 11.

Palmerston v Eagles

The Palmerston Power notched up their first win of this competition with a 54-44 victory against the Eagles. The Power had to stage a come-back to win the game as they trailed 31-29 at the major break. They stuffed the Eagles offense in the third quarter during a surprising 19-0 run that put them into the driver’s seat with a 48-31 lead with a quarter to play. The Eagles outplayed the Power in the last quarter 13-6, but the damage had been done during the third quarter and the Birds were unable to repeat their good first half form. Christine Cooper (8.9ppg) led Power from the front with a team high 15 with stalwart Jennifer Kinsella (7.6ppg) adding 11. Patina Grass (10ppg) from the Eagles led all scorers with 16 points and Michelle Friel (10.2ppg) chipped in with 14.

League Men –Ansett v Tracy Village Jets

Travis Ellis and Michael MacLean combined for 47 points to lead the Tracy Village Jets to a solid 80-68 win against Ansett. The loss by the Blues dropped them from second place to fourth on the ladder while the Bombers jumped into second. The Bombers brought to a halt a five game win streak by the Blues as Ellis (14.8ppg), MacLean (13.1ppg) and Phil Collins posted double figures during the encounter. The game was close in the first quarter but the Bombers stepped up their offense in the second quarter during a 16-9 run that gave them a 38-28 half time lead that proved to be enough of a buffer in the end for the win. The Blues also had a number of scorers pushing for the win with Daniel Florance (22ppg) leading the way with 23, John King 18 @ 22.1ppg and Matthew Barrett on 10.

Uni Rebels v Lightning

The Uni Rebels kept their slim hopes alive for a playoff spot with a 93-62 win against the Lightning. The win keeps the Rebels 2 games out of fourth place and they can ill afford any more losses if they aspire to participate in the playoffs. Lucci Cornelius (9.7ppg) pumped in a game high 21 to lead four other Rebels in double figures as the red, white & blues worked their way through four quarters of domination for the win. A big 36-18 third quarter really laid down the gauntlet to the Lightning, but they failed to respond to the challenge despite the efforts of Cameron Bailey 17, Christian Williams 13 and Lemuel Jones 12. The Rebels face a ‘must win’ game next week against Palmerston.

Razzle v Palmerston

Eruera McCullough hit a season high 29 points to help the Palmerston Power storm past the Razzle 90-67. The win shot the Power into third place on the ladder. McCullough (11.2ppg) got plenty of help from team mates Jesse Bell 17, Ben Muvirimi 15 and Robbie Wilson 10. A dominant first half spotted the Power to a 40-23 lead that they maintained throughout the second half for the win. Brendan Dell (15ppg) had his best outing for the green and gold with 25 points and he was backed up by Robert Oliver (13.9ppg) with 18 and Alan Watson with 11.
