Championship Season

Darwin Airport Resort League Results from Saturday 14 September 2013

League Women – Lightning v Tracy Village Jets

The Tracy Village Jets zoomed past the undermanned Lightning 87-33 to register their ninth straight win in the DBA Championship Season. The undefeated Bombers were full of run and gun with four players reaching double figures during the rout. Kylie Duggan (14.2ppg) racked up a team and game high 20 points to lead the Bombers and she had plenty of support from Tara Maxwell (13), Sam Rioli (11) and Danielle Totham (10). The Bombers took off with a 14-7 first quarter run and powered away in the second quarter with a 22-5 effort that put the game out of reach for the Lightning by half time. Best for the Lightning on the night were import Starkitsha Higgins (12.5ppg) with 9 and Lucy Murray with 8.

Eagles v Uni Rebels

The Red, White & Blues of the Uni Rebel camp charged past the Eagles 84-67 and looked impressive in the victory, setting their sights on the their meeting next Friday with the undefeated Tracy Village Jets. The Rebels had all guns firing with four in double figures. New York import (and former South Adelaide Panthers player) Dana Rommel (13.3ppg) knocked down a team and season high 27 points to lead the Rebels with help from Jaylene Bonson (19), Jaylene Boundry (15) and Delsey Ah Wang (14). On the other side Molloy College import Kymira Woodberry (20.3ppg) from Hyde Park, Massachusetts, USA hit a season and game high 28 that offset Rommel’s output, but didn’t get as much support from the Eagle bench to keep the Eagles within reach of the Rebels. The only other Eagle to reach double figures was Michelle Friel with 11.

Palmerston v Ansett

Ansett jumped back into final-four contention with a gritty 53-43 win against Palmerston. The Blues had built up a seven point buffer by halftime (30-23) and managed to cling onto that lead for the remainder of the game. The win puts the Blues back into a tie for fourth place with the Eagles whom they play next Friday. Sam Drescher (18.5ppg) hit a game high 22 for the Blues, getting support from Lauren Flanegan with 10 and Chelsea Cook adding 9. Palmerston must have had a glimmer of hope in this game as Jennifer Kinsella (15), Christine Cooper (13) and Tessa Hart (10) all reached double figures, but there just wasn’t enough support from the rest of the troops. Cooper’s recent offensive output has helped the Power, but that first win still seems a way off.

Ladder:                                           Tracy Village Jets 9-0, Uni Rebels 6-1-2, Lightning 5-1-3, Eagles & Ansett 3-6 & Palmerston 0-9

This week’s games Round 10:           Palmerston v Lightning 6:15pm, Uni Rebels v Tracy Village Jets 7:45pm & Eagles v Ansett 9:15pm
