League Women –Palmerston v Lightning @ Palmerston

Lightning had to put in a mighty effort in the second half to put down Palmerston 46-33 in Round 7 of the Darwin Basketball Championship Season. Palmerston had hung tough in the first half to trail by only 3 at the break 22-19. Alexis Hohipa, Jennifer Kinsella (7) and Nyssa Curwen (8) stood tall in defense for Palmerston limiting the open shots that Lightning had. After the break, however, the momentum shifted in favour of Lightning as they applied defensive pressure of their own that allowed Palmerston only 2pts for the third quarter as Lightning stormed away during a 10-2 run that gave them a 32-21 advantage moving into the last quarter. Jacinda Lambert put up some good stats with 9pts, 11rebs, 4 assists and 4 blocked shots. Deearne Lee hauled in a game high 17 rebounds and Brittany Ward led all scorers with 16 for the game. Turnovers once again didn’t help Palmerston as they committed 24 that Lightning turned into 15 points. Lightning hit 29% from the field to 21% for Palmerston.
