Rounds Seven & Eight

League Women – Lightning v Tracy Village Jets

The Tracy Village Jets ran their winning streak out to 20 with another polished display of firepower, this time against the Lighting whom they beat 66-46. After last week’s 124-62 thrashing of the Eagles the Jets would appear to be unbeatable again, unless there is a slip up on their way to another championship. By half time in this game the Jets were easily in control with a 16pt 39-23 lead and although they dropped a few points to the Lightning in the third quarter they powered on in the fourth to claim the points and remain unbeaten. Tikesa Docherty-Cole nailed a team and game high 20 with Kylie Duggan on 16 and Sam Rioli & Tania Dhu adding 10 each. For the Lighting Hayley Hendricksen top scored with 15.

Razzle v Eagles

Razzle caused a minor upset when they downed the Eagles 49-48 for their second win in a row! The game was close throughout with Razzle leading early on before the Birds took over early in the third quarter. Unfortunately for the Birds the Green & Gold produced a late rally with just 2:30 remaining in the game to take a 3pt lead with just 2:16 remaining after consecutive baskets by Lailani Triffit & Kaylena Marimowa. Michelle Friel hit a basket for the Eagles at the 1:16 mark to trail by one point, but the Razzle hung on to win by the narrowest of margins. Genelle Bridge let the Razzle with 13, Marimowa finished with 12 and Triffit with 11. Molly Althouse from the Eagles led all scorers with 19, Friel added 17 and Faye Armstrong 10.

Thursday - Palmerston Power v Ansett

The Palmerston Power pushed through into a tie for third place on the ladder with a 55-43 win over Ansett. Every team member scored for the Power who broke a three game losing streak going back to the second round. Haven Hohipa-Wilson led the way with 15 points followed by Brittany Ward on 11. In a very erratic game the Power led 17-6 after one quarter, trailed by 5 at half time 25-20 (only 3pts in the 2nd qtr) and then finally got it all together in the second half to win going away, outscoring the Blues 35-18. Ruta Valiulyte & Stephanie Oberprieler hit 11 each for the Blues with Erin Boyd chipping in with 10.

Matt Hunt from the Blues played a blinder as he top scored for the side with team mate Jerron Jamerson on 35 points. The teams put up 23 treys during the game and provided enough lead changes to keep the game highly entertaining. At the end of three quarter time the score read Eagles 74 Ansett 73. A couple of momentum swings and the Blues grabbed the lead and then weathered the Eagle fight back to win a narrow one. Adding points to the Blues duo were Brad Davis on 16 and Freddy Webb 14. Alex Fertig from the Eagles led all scorers with 41, Joseph Johnson had 20 and James Smith 12.

Tracy Village Jets v Razzle

The Razzle only trailed by 5 at thee quarter time, but the wheels fell off in the final term as the Bombers outscored them 35-16. The Green & Gold seem able to score, but the defense is a letdown.
