Round 8

League Women -  Eagles v Razzle Storm

The Eagle women bumped off the Razzle Storm 77-59 as they racked up win number eight and remain undefeated so far this season. The win sets up next week’s clash with the usual front runners the Tracy Village Jets. Ieasha Friel (28.5ppg) continues to dominate offensively for the Eagles. Friel hit a new season and league high of 38 in this encounter confirming that she does have ‘game’. In a very tightly fought contest the score was all tied up at half time 26 each. The third quarter proved to be the pivot as the Birds pulled in front 46-38 after a 20-12 run and then turned in a 31-21 last quarter to run out winners. Friel had help from sister Michelle Friel (13.38ppg) who notched up 17 points while Erin Boyd (13ppg) had her best game of the season hitting 25 for the Storm.

Ansett v Lightning

Ansett led from the start to the finish in their 60-45 victory against the winless Lightning. Carolyn Nyhouse (11ppg) led the Blues with 24 points and Kate Pierce chipped in with 10. Rebecca Thorne (8.6ppg) was the only Lightning player to hit double figures with 10.

Uni Rebels v Tracy Village Jets

It took the Tracy Village Jets three quarters before they got the upper hand against the Uni Rebels, but they did. The Jets won the game 59-41, but had to work hard to get it. The Jets won it with stiff defense that only allowed the Rebels 17 second half points while they put up 37 (24 during the last quarter run). Tikesa Docherty-Cole (15.86ppg) took scoring honours for the Jets with 14 and Leah Seden added 10. Jaylene Bonson (16.43ppg) carried most of the load for the Rebels as she hit a game high 17, but was the only player in double figures. A strong comeback for the Jets and a tune-up for next week’s clash with the ladder leaders Eagles.

The Rebels had to wrestle the lead away from HPP who led 30-29 at half time. After the break HPP lost ground to the Rebels as they outscored the youngsters 21-16 for a 50-46 heading into the last frame. Rebel newcomer Spencer Coleman hit 14 of his 28 points in the last quarter to lead the way as HPP fell by the wayside scoring just 13 points against 22 for the Rebels. Lightning v Tracy Village Jets

Lightning won their fourth game of the season as they broke away from the Tracy Village Jets in the second half of their match for a 62-50 victory. Kisselev tallied 16, Charman 15 and Schloss 10.

Palmerston Power v Ansett

Ansett ran the Palmerston Power into the ground with a 99-71 win that keeps them just 2 games behind the league leading Eagles. The Blues hit over 20pts in each quarter as they blew past the Power. The Blues held a 49-35 lead at half time thanks to Brad Davis, Jerron Jamerson (33.2ppg) and Freddy Webb who kept up a steady attack on the hoop during the first half. In the second half it was Jamerson who once again led by example, hitting 20 of his team & game high 29 to finish off the Power. Lending support to Jamerson were: Max Davies (17 @ 15.5ppg), Matthew Haniford (11) & Brad Davis (10). Caleb Pannell hit a season high for the Power with 20 and Jesse Bell (18.5ppg) added 16.

Razzle v Eagles

The Eagle men are in uncharted waters after winning their 8th game in a row. Their 102-51 win against the Razzle Storm sees them undefeated and on a win streak they have never experienced before. The Storm didn’t put up much of a fight (they trailed 28-10 after one quarter) and were well and truly behind the eight ball at half time 48-17. By the end of the third quarter the score stood at 69-32. Anthony Golden (31.3ppg) put up 31 points with Jordan Sing (10.2ppg) adding 24, Jesse Williams-Hook 20 and David Oates 10.
