DBA League Results – 23 & 24 February 2017

Round 3

League Women -  Lightning v Ansett

Ansett got their first win of the season at the expense of Lightning 65-53. The Blues lifted themselves up off the bottom of the ladder relegating the Lightning to the cellar for the moment. Clancy Dorman (10ppg) led the Blues with her best game of the season. Dorman hit 21 points with Tamiyah Perkins adding 14 and Kate Pierce 12. After a close first quarter the Blues lifted to post a 19-8 second quarter run for a 29-19 half time lead. They were never really challenged after that to claim the win. The lone player to reach double figures for Lightning was Dominique Carbone (15.5ppg) with 18.

Razzle Storm v Eagles

The Eagles continued to rack up big points as they dumped the Razzle Storm 80-57. A four- pronged attack from Ieasha (26ppg) & Michelle Friel (18 each), Faye Armstrong 13 and Trish Graham 10 led the Birds to their third win in a row, setting up a top of the table match next week with the Tracy Village Jets. The Birds led 18-11 after a quarter of play and pushed that out to a 43-26 advantage at halftime. The Storm put up a bit more resistance in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to overhaul the lead the Eagles had established. Erin Boyd led the Storm with 15, Lailani Triffitt (20.3ppg) hit 14 and Genelle Bridge had 10. As a footnote Trish Graham became the first woman to score more than 7000pts in League play. Trish now has 7001.

Tracy Village Jets v Uni Rebels

The Tracy Village Jets machine churned out another win as they ran over the Uni Rebels 68-33 to run their unbeaten streak out to 38. The defense by the Jets limited the Rebels to single digits in all but one quarter as they chalked up their third win of the competition. Tania Dhu (15.3ppg) led the charge with 17 points (including 5 treys), Tikesa Docherty-Cole added 14, Kylie Duggan 11 and Francis Fatnowna 10. Tiayana Sing led the Rebels with 9.

Men

League Men Palmerston Power v HPP

HPP claimed their first win of the season as they powered past the Palmerston Power 87-67. The youthful side shared the points around as six players hit double figures during the encounter. HPP trailed 14-17 after a quarter of play but erupted for 31 points in the second quarter to just 10 for the Jets to take a commanding 45-27 lead at half time. The second quarter buffer proved to be the winning margin as the Jets lifted their game to match the HPP in the second half, but they failed to mount a serious challenge. Max Davies (13.3ppg) & Jai O’Shaughnessy shared scoring honours for the HPP with 14 each, Jackson Tremlett, Steven Sing & Freddy Webb (16.6ppg) hit 12 each and James Toohey 11. For Palmerston Fisto Bizima (20ppg) took game scoring honours with 23 and Nathan Bowles 16.

Eagles v Ansett

The Eagles & Ansett set a new record for three pointers in a game that the Birds won 117-91. Thirty treys were netted during the encounter surpassing the old record of 29 set by the Eagles and Warriors in 2009. The Eagles hit 17 in this game, 8 of them by Anthony Golden (35.3ppg). The Birds got off to a great start in the first quarter outscoring the Blues 14-5 in the last 5 minutes of the quarter for a 28-15 lead that built up to a 56-35 half time lead. By the time the fourth quarter began the Birds led 84-47. The Blues won the shoot out in the last quarter 44-33, but fell far short of overhauling the Eagles. Golden finished with 30, Jerrell Sanders (29.3ppg) 28, Lachlan Shipway 18 (including 4 treys) and Jesse Williams-Hook 12. Jerron Jamerson (34.6ppg) & Brad Davis shared scoring honours for the Blues with 21 apiece with Max Davies hitting 18.

Razzle Storm v Tracy Village Jets

The Tracy Village Jets hit a purple patch in the third quarter to wrestle the lead away from the Razzle Storm and went on to record their first win of the season. The Bombers won the match 67-57, but it took a 24-10 run in the third quarter to ensure that they were on the right track. Leading the way for the Bombers were Jackson Tremlett & Alex Weetra with 13 points each followed by Liam Maclachlan with 10. For the Storm Brendan Dell stood out with a game high 22 with Daniel Calcatera helping out with 10.

Lightning v Uni Rebels

Tim Morris, Jake Kirby and Jake Eyles combined for 67pts to lead the Uni Rebels to an 84-61 victory over the Lightning. Thirteen long range treys proved to be a big help in dispatching the Lightning with Kirby nailing 5 and Eyles 4. Lightning managed only 3 from outside the arc. The Rebels took a 26-13 lead after one quarter and by half time led 43-20. A better second half from the Lightning gave a little hope, but it was for nought as the Rebels easily maintained their lead. Morris (31.6ppg) ended up with 30, Kirby 19 and Eyles18. For the Lightning Austin Kisselev (24ppg) hit 24 and Craig Martin 16.
