Round 13 (Women) - 17 (Men)

League Women Round 13 -Thursday – Tracy Village Jets v Ansett

A full court press for the better part of the game by the Tracy Village Jets drew big rewards as they demolished Ansett 118-41. Running their win streak out to 28 in a row the Bombers also ran the Blues off their feet during the encounter. A first quarter score-line of 31-2 was a big indication of what was to come. By half time it was 52-13. With their transition game in high gear the Bombers got a lot of easy layups with Tikesa Docherty-Cole firing in a season and league high 42 points. Also in double figures were Erin Geer on 21, Kylie Duggan 17, Leah Seden 14 and Sam Rioli 12. Erin Boyd was the only Razzle player to reach double figures with 18. Tamyiah Perkins added 9.

Eagles v Palmerston Power

The Palmerston Power barged their way to a 71-64 win over the Eagles after trailing at the half-time break. The Birds looked to be in control at the half with a 33-27 lead, but the Power began to assert themselves in the third quarter with tougher defense and the ball began to find the target. Their efforts paid off as the game was tied up at 51 all at three quarter time as the they took advantage of some tired Eagle legs. In the last quarter they slipped into the lead with 5:10 remaining in the game after a basket by Tulaha Jeffrey gave them a 58-57 advantage. The Power led for the rest of the game despite the close attention from the Birds who managed to get within 4 at 68-64 with 58 seconds to go, but that was the last challenge. Brittany Ward hit a game high 18 with Haven Hohipa-Wilson & Sam Wilson on 10 apiece. Trish Graham hit a team high 17 for the Eagles with Michelle Friel finishing on 13 and Chantelle Lee on 11

Razzle v Lightning

Lightning escaped with an overtime win against the Razzle who looked set to steal a win in a very exciting match. The Lightning won in OT 65-60, but they count themselves lucky as the Razzle staged a last quarter rally that almost won them the game. Razzle trailed for the whole game and were down 47-31 at the end of three quarters of play due to a great team effort from the Lightning. Whatever was said in the huddle before the beginning of the fourth quarter worked because the Razzle outscored the Lightning 23-7 to pull back to even at 54 all at the end of the last quarter. Genelle Bridge & Rebecca Murray tallied 13 between them as they led the charge for the Green & Gold. The overtime, however favoured the Lightning despite the Razzle hitting the first three baskets of the OT to lead 60-54 with 3 minutes to go. Lightning came home with a rush with Kira Pendlebury and Hayley Hendricksen hitting 10 of the 11 points needed for the win. Hendricksen finished with 18, Pendlebury & Grace Morcom hit 12 each. Bridge hit a game high 20 for the Razzle with Lailani Triffitt getting 15 and Murray 12.

Ladder:      Tracy Village Jets 12-0, Palmerston Power 7-5, Lightning 8-4, Eagles 5-8, Razzle 4-8, & Ansett 2-11

Men

Uni Rebels v Tracy Village Jets

The Uni Rebels won their fifth game in a row by toppling the Tracy Village Jets 90-66. New Rebel import Jerrell Sanders led the Rebels to the win with 20 points, but it wasn’t all easy going for the Rebels despite the final score-line. The young Jets played tough in the first quarter to only trail by 3 at 23-20, but the cracks began to show half way through the second quarter as the Rebels found the range and accuracy through Sanders, Chad Bewley and Jake Kirby. By half time the score was 49-31 for the Rebels and after a fairly subdued third quarter the Rebels went on a 27-18 last quarter run to seal the win. Bewley lent support to Sanders with 15, Jamie Hamill 12 (all treys) and Kirby10. Liam MacLachlan hit 16 for the Jets with Jackson Tremlett & Jett Sukcharoen adding 11 each

Eagles v Lightning

The Eagles got a bit of their swagger back after last week’s loss to the Rebels by beating the Lightning for the third time this season 92-75. Lightning had won 5 of their last 6 coming into this game, but the Eagles knew what had to be done and did it with just 6 players suited up. The third quarter proved pivotal for the Birds as Lachlan Shipway, Alex Fertig & Jesse Williams-Hook teamed up for 23 points during a 31-16 blitz to give the Birds a 15 point lead with a quarter to play. It proved to be too much for the Lightning to overcome despite the heroic effort of Austin Kisselev who hit a game high 29 points. Fertig led the Birds with 23, Williams-Hook hit a season high 21 as did Dirk Steenbergen on 20 and Joseph Johnson had 18. The only other Lightning player in doubles was Craig Martin on 10.

Ansett v Razzle

Jerron Jamerson got close to a new record when he put up a season high 74 points while leading Ansett to a 128-98 victory over the luckless Razzle. The League record for points scored during a game is 80 by Andre Moss of the Rebels back in 2011. Jamerson’s total was put together with consistency throughout the game. He never scored more than 8pts in a row, but he never stopped scoring either and quite a few of his points were punctuated by slam dunks either from a fast break or a put back. It was an impressive display. The Razzle had their own highlight film going with Reed Ridder who hit his second highest total this season with 38. But the Blues were just too good on the night with Jamerson getting help from Brad Davis 17 and Max Davies 12. Ridder had support from Brendan Dell with 22 and Daniel Calcatera with 17.

Ladder:       Ansett 12-2, Eagles 11-4, Rebels 8-6 & Palmerston Power & Lightning 7-6, Tracy Village Jets 2-11 & & Razzle 0-13

Next week Round 18:     Thursday: Tracy Village Jets v Lightning 8:00pm. Friday: Uni Rebels v Razzle 6:30pm & Eagles v Palmerston Power 8:00pm. Bye Ansett
