Noosa District Basketball Association Inc (NDBA) Development Officer (10 hours per week negotiable)

Are you looking for an interesting sports development role in the exciting sport of basketball in a growing and dynamic association? NDBA has the opportunity just for YOU.

 ND NDBA is seeking a Development Officer to grow junior basketball in Noosa area, enhance the skills of junior players and generate greater success amongst NDBA representative teams. Salary is expected to be $10,000 pa negotiable depending on skills and experience. NDBA junior game days are currently as follows:

  • Fridays            4.00pm to 9.30pm
  • Saturdays        7.30am to 12.00 noon.
  • Other days will be negotiated to address training outside game days to fit in with representative team training. Thursday evening junior competition may be introduced in the future.

 NOTE the Development Officer is not required to attend all junior game days but rather negotiate a development strategy and timeframe with the Management Committee and deliver the agreed program. Role is outcome focussed.

 Key areas of responsibility include:

 Prepare a program, in concert with the Management Committee, for the growth of the NDBA junior basketball program under the umbrella of a new “Noosa Cyclones Academy”..

  • Provide training opportunities for junior players to enhance their skills, tactics, understanding and knowledge of basketball.
  • Raise the standard of the NDBA domestic competition in concert with the objectives of the Committee.
  • Provide advice and oversight in the selection of NDBA Representative (Rep) Teams and ensure there is appropriate feedback to ManagementCommittee, players and parents as to the rationale of team selections
  • Support volunteer coaches prepare their Rep Teams.
  • Contribute to the review of the Rep Player agreement.
  • Contribute to the review of player participation policy and rules in both domestic and Rep competitions.
  • Promote a culture of fair play and self discipline amongst junior players and teams.
  • Represent NDBA as specifically required by the Management Committee in the development and support of junior basketball in schools and general community.

 Selection Criteria

 Essential Knowledge and Experience

Qualifications:

  • Current first aid and CPR certificate or equivalent
  • Basketball coaching accreditation / qualifications to a minimum Level 1 standard.

Experience:

 Candidates for this position will have:

  • Strong functional understanding of basketball skills, tactics and training techniques,
  • Played basketball at a demonstrated high standard.
  • Demonstrated strong organisation skills and experience.
  • Strong oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract and retain the attention and respect of junior basketball players.
  • An abundance of enthusiasm, initiative and commitment.

Selection to all positions at NDBA is based on the principles of merit and equity. Applicants for the position are expected to provide:

  • A letter outlining why they believe they are the best candidate for the position
  • A resume.
  • Names and contact details of 3 referees.

Conditions of Employment

  • Tenure – 1 year contract with possibility of extensions subject to conditions.
  • Hours – Permanent – 10 hours per week. (To be negotiated and confirmed by Committee).
  • Salary Package – $10,000 gross including compulsory employer superannuation contribution. Entitlements are: 9.25% superannuation guarantee contribution as amended by legislation from time to time, annual leave of 4 weeks, 2 weeks personal leave and other broad entitlements as prescribed by appropriate legislation. Package is negotiable to a degree depending on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.
