An S.J. Ol’Aces player drives against three Rollers defenders during the fourth quarter of their game in the U19 division of the Rotary caging last Friday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium. (Roselyn B. Monroyo)The S.J. Ol’Aces is a win away from sweeping the regular season of the U19 division of the 22nd Annual Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League, following another victory last Friday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

The S.J. Ol’Aces topped the Rollers, 63-53, to stretch its winning streak to six. The S.J. Ol’Aces will go for the sweep of the round-robin league this week when it meets the Kagman Cougars.

Thought it lost by twin digits, the Rollers (2-3) managed to threaten the league-leading S.J. Ol’Aces for a while, moving within 4 points, 42-46, at the start of the fourth quarter. The S.J. Ol’Aces then sued for time and when the game resumed, it buckled down to work to widen the gap anew. Derek Olopai escaped with several fastbreak layups past the halfway mark of the fourth frame to lift the S.J. Ol’Aces to the victory.

Olopai finished with a game-high 21 points and was the lone double-figure scorer for the S.J. Ol’Aces. Darrius Pettis, Chris Mizer, and Daniel Camacho chipped in 8 apiece.

C.J. Morales paced the Rollers with his 19 points, while Prince Factor contributed 10.

Proa 63, Rebelholics 38

In the second game last Friday, Proa/Mariana Resort (3-2) coasted past the Rebelholics (1-5).

Proa consistently scored in double figures in all four quarters to pound the Rebelholics, which had the game out of its hands right in the first half. The Rebelholics made only three field goals each in the first and second period, allowing Proa to take a commanding 28-13 lead.

Aaron Pamintuan and Dixon Kwon top-scored in Proa’s easy victory, recording 15 points apiece. Ankie Manalili added 14, while Joe Aguilar and William Camacho combined for 17 markers. Wilfredo Francisco led the Rebelholics’ losing cause, tallying 9 points.
