National Squad Selection

With the South Pacific Games fast approaching in Samoa from 24th August - 5th September 2007, the Solomon Islands Basketball Federation (SIBF) has put plans in place to begin squad selection.

The timing and setup of the HBA Super 4 Knockout Competition gives an excellent opportunity for potential Solomon Islands National Squad members to showcase their talents in a highly competitive environment. SIBF President Freda Matangi said that "it is very important that all potential squad members are given a fair chance to show their abilities, and the SIBF has developed a selection process that supports this idea."

The process will involve the Super 4 Knockout Competition, followed by a series of training and basketball sessions. As such, any aspiring National Squad players are urged to contact either a participating club or the Honiara Basketball Association (HBA) to obtain a position on a team roster, although players that do not take part will still be considered.

Throughout the Super 4 Knockout Competition, members of the SIBF including Australian Basketball Coach, and Solomon Islands Basketball Development Officer Ryan Burns will be watching and taking notes to try and select the best possible squad that will represent Solomon Islands at the South Pacific Games next year. Australian Volunteer and Development Officer Ryan Burns said that "this will be a difficult task with such a high number of talented basketball athletes in the Solomon Islands, however we are looking forward to the challenge."
