Transworld Dunk Funds for HBL League

The Transworld Commodities company who had heavily involved in basketball in the country had again lived up to its commitment with the donation of funds to help with the administering of this year's Honiara Basketball Association (HBA) League.
The Honiara Basketball Association president Goldie Kari on Friday personally received the first phase of assistance for this year's league from the Managing Director of Transworld Commodities Limited (TWC) Thompson Turueke.
Speaking to Star Sport after receiving the first payment of $6000.00 young Kari was speechless and said he cannot described how thankful to the sudden response from the local company.
He said, "the assistance was timely which would enable us to kick off the much awaited league."
Kari explained that the money will be geared towards the administering and running of the league in few weeks time.
He said the date of the actual league will be decided by his committee and will be announced later.
Kari who led the Guadalcanal men's side to win gold during the recent Makira Solomons Game said that four teams will be formed from a selected pool of 120 best players to compete amongst themselves.
From that pool of players the best ones from both men and women will be fairly distributed amongst the four teams respectively.
Each of the newly formed teams purposely for that competition will have their own names.
This would involve eight teams comprising of four male and female team.
The teams will play against each other for points and position.
From their given position after the first round the teams will then battle it out in the next round for the winner.
He said prizes have been secured in the second phase of funds from the TWC and the amount that will be be up for grab after the competition is yet to be decided.
Kari noted that this is a new concept to have a more tougher competition as well as identifying the best players as possible.
TWC which is specialised in building construction work and importing procurement last year also funded a similar competition
"It is an annual commitment," says Turueke whose family was heavily involved in basketball in the country.
The TWC managing director says he is pleased to help with the development basketball in the country.
Kari while thanking TWC also appeals to other companies to support basketball in the country.
The competition is expected to run for more than 5 weeks.
