The Teuila festival is an important event in Samoa. It is an event where numerous of tourists come to Samoa and the Federation has decided that it is a perfect time to hold a Teuila Basketball Competition. The competition was divided into two zones; the east and west zone. Teams were selected from the teams involved in the national tournament according to the zones they hale from. West zone started from the village of Taufusi to Siusega. The East zone was from the village Taufusi to Saoluafata. The under11 and under13 both girls and boys were also divided the same way.

The Samoa National Basketball Federation Association has witnessed some improvement on how Samoa performs the game. This Teuila competition was an inspiration that has motivated a lot to participate in the game especially the young ones. A veteran’s game also took place in this event. It was an ecstatic view to see the oldies get back into the game again even those with disabilities were able to enjoy and take part in the 3 pointer competition on the night. Many were able to witness the event and have made remarks that this competition was a good starter for the little ones to want to join in and gain more interest of the basketball sport.

From this competition a message has been promoted that’’ anyone can play basketball regardless of age and disabilities”. The basketball association has witnessed from this competition that children in Samoa has talent for basketball but it needs development for improvement. Seeing the excitement on how these little ones play the game, approximately within 5 years they will blossom like stars. We have the talent but it needs development in which the Samoa basketball development officer is working to upgrade.
