The Williamstown Football Club certainly highlighted the talent pathway in Victoria last Tuesday when they travelled to Western Australia to play top of the ladder WAFL side East Perth in the Foxtel Cup.
The 22 players that represented the Seagulls in the Semi Final had all graduated from AFL Victoria’s TAC Cup competition.
The average age of the side was 21 years old, with Nick Meese the ‘veteran’ of the team at 25.
Players from seven different TAC Cup clubs represented Williamstown in their four goal victory, which set up a Grand Final berth against reigning WAFL Premiers West Perth on Tuesday the 22nd of July at Simonds Stadium, Geelong.
Williamstown Football Club Football Manager Chris Dixon said it was pleasing to provide an opportunity to these players.
"We always endeavour to recruit players from the TAC Cup and identify young talent that has not been drafted but still have plenty of upside in their football and are determined to play in the best competition outside the AFL.
"It was a great result to have all 22 players represent the Club having graduated through the TAC Cup and have an average age of 21.1 years.
“It was a great win and a terrific endorsement of the TAC Cup Competition."
Of the 22 players, half the side has played 10 or more games for the Williamstown senior side, with only one player yet to make his senior debut this season.
