LEIGH Osborne was a pretty good footballer as a kid.
He made the Eastern Ranges TAC Cup team, but quit halfway through his top-age year. Four years later, the electrician wants a second chance.
After playing at East Ringwood, Osborne moved to Frankston Dolphins this year. It's from this VFL springboard the defender hopes to enter the main game.
He has a few mates at the Dolphins. Khan Haretuku, Leigh Kitchin and Kyle Martin are also hoping for an AFL call-up.
Like Osborne, they're 22 - in any other sphere that is pretty young to be labelled "mature-aged".
Osborne impressed at this month's draft camp at Etihad Stadium, clocking the third-fastest 20m sprint (2.86sec), and he was fourth fastest in the repeat sprints.
Osborne knows at least five AFL clubs have some interest - five nominations is the trigger for an invitation to the camp.
