Round 3 of the NAB Cup competition was a weekend of upsets, as poor performing teams from 2011 came out in full strength to convincingly beat their previously stronger rivals.
Two players elevated from the Peter Jackson VFL shone through in their team’s loss. Tory Dickson and Tom Campbell both from the Bendigo Bombers put forward solid performances for the Western Bulldogs in their loss to North Melbourne.
24 year old draftee, Tory Dickson, distributed 15 disposals and delivered 4 hard tackles.
Tom Campbell, a 20 year old rookie, gave an undermanned Bulldogs side a much needed spark by performing well across the ground. Campbell had 11 disposals, 5 hit-outs, 5 contested marks, 2 tackles, and 3 influential goals.
Western Bulldogs next play on Saturday 17th March against Geelong. This will provide Dickson and Campbell with another solid challenge as Geelong should come out hard after their big loss to Richmond.
ROUND TWO REVIEW:
Round Two of the NAB Cup saw two players shine in an upset win for Melbourne over an undermanned Collingwood side.
James Magner and Tom Couch made their Peter Jackson VFL Club’s proud with strong performances across the ground. Magner, formerly at the Sandringham Zebras, racked up 13 kicks, 8 handballs and 7 tackles. Past Collingwood VFL player, Tom Couch, showed his match experience by guiding 15 disposals and delivering 7 tackles.
Both players are making a strong statement to coaches in an attempt to be elevated to Melbourne’s Senior List for the start of the 2012 Home & Away Season.
Other 2011 VFL players that played on the weekend were Orren Stephenson (Geelong), Tim Mohr (GWS), Sam Gibson (North Melbourne) and Tory Dickson (Western Bulldogs) who all put in solid efforts which should provide them with another opportunity to show selectors what they have to offer for the 2012 AFL Season.
