Casey Scorpions president John Sharkie has recognised the contribution of departing coach Bradley Gotch, who has accepted a line coaching position at AFL club Port Adelaide.
Gotch coached the Scorpions for the past two years in the Peter Jackson VFL, resulting in top-four finishes both years.
In his first appointment at the club he also oversaw the 1996 premiership before moving on to roles with Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs.
``As much as we're sad to see him go, we're absolutely delighted Brad has received this exciting and significant opportunity at Port Adelaide,'' Sharkie said.
``It goes without saying that he leaves with our best wishes.
``He is a highly respected person at our football club and as a premiership coach he will always have a special place in our history and our hearts.
``But part of our role is providing a pathway for players, coaches and staff to develop and perhaps go to the next level, so from that point of view we're pleased to have helped with Brad's progression to an AFL club.
``His departure opens up our coaching position and we're confident there's some very good candidates out there.
``We'd like to finalise the appointment sooner rather later.
``But we will take the time to make sure we get the right person for the job.''
On the appointment of Gotch, along with the coaching appointments of Josh Carr and Shaun Rehn, Port coach Matthew Primus said “We’ve brought together a group of passionate football people who will work as a team and develop both our playing group and each other.
“Together, we look forward to working with the players who are mostly in an age group that requires important development and we have a team of coaches who are highly committed to doing that.
“These guys all understand football, but they bring different experiences and different opinions from different environments. Most importantly they have enormous work ethic.”
