The Coburg Tigers bared their teeth for all to see on Sunday at ABD Group stadium, demolishing a toothless Werribee outfit by 58 points.
From the first bounce, where Coburg smashed through six quick goals, it was obvious it was going to be a long day for the Werribee Tigers.
Jay Schultz amassed a bag of eight goals in the Burgers momentous win, and will surely earn himself a recall into the Richmond list.
Coburg set the the tone of the day, when they smashed home six unanswered goals in quick succession in the first quarter. Werribee were lucky enough thanks to some errors from Coburg, to claw back three goals late in the quarter courtesy of Micheal Barlow, Will Martiniello and Steven Kennedy, to give them some hope in the match.
It was all out attack again in the second quarter from the burgers, with Werribee nothing more than passengers along for a miserable Sunday outing. Nick Carnell, Nick Liddle and Shane Edwards were a formidable force across the half back and center of the ground, and all three slotted home majors.
Jay Schultz was a massive forward presence for Coburg, kicking another two majors for the quarter. The only real shining light for Werribee, was Will Martiniello playing his heart out up forward. Rob Castello and Nathan Grima also both troubled the scoreboard attendant, but Werribee were simply unable to capitalize on their scoring opportunity's with Coburg leading by 37 points.
Whatever Simon Atkins said to his troops at half-time didn't have the desired affect, as Werribee struggled to stem the flow of goals coming from Coburg. Martiniello, Dominic Gleeson and Nathan Black all slotted home goals for Werribee, but unfortunately for Werribee the well ran dry for the remainder of the third quarter. Schultz added another two to his tally and Jake King snuck forward and got a sneaky back mans goal, with Edwards goaling on the siren which gave the Burgers a 45 point lead.
Werribee would've been better off getting on the bus early and going home for the night, as Coburg piled on the pressure in the last quarter adding another three goals two from best on ground Jay Schultz. Coburg finished 58 point winners, and were undoubtedly a far superior unit on Sunday.
If not for poor kicking on Coburgs behalf in the last quarter, the end scoreline would've been a little embarrassing for Werribee. Simon Atkins stated that his team were simply beaten by a better team on the day, but with Werribee languishing at tenth position, the season looks a long and stressful one for the Werribee coach.
