Box Hill coach Brendon Bolton has praised his players after his side's first ANZAC Day win in five years.
"During the week we spoke about ANZAC Day and through the week I got the players to do a bit of research," Bolton told 3WBC 94.1FM.
"I think at times the media can play it up, that football's like war - it's definitely not like war. We don't really understand what that's like.
"There has been a lot of sacrifice over the years by a lot of Australians and the only way we could mark the day, was by showing our respect and we tried to appreciate the day by the way we played our footy.
"Eveyone played their role so I'm wrapt."
Bolton was pleased that a tough pre-season had bore fruit.
"We did a huge pre-season and we tried to make everyone accountable for their own bodies," Bolton revealed.
"In saying that, we rotated heavily and we understand the game's pretty quick these days."
Bolton praised the work of veteran half backs Marco Bello, who won the Gibbs-Lines Medal for best afield, and Adem Yze.
"Marco Bello's hes had a terrifc career in South Australia and his compsure, together with Adem Yze was outstanding," Bolton said.
Ed Curnow bobbed up with two goals and was crucial in the clinches.
"Ed Curnow is not only a quality footballer but he is a quality person and his work ethic was unbelievable," Bolton enthused.
"He is actually a role model for a lot of players around our club in how to train and I think that shows in his footy."
