Have you ever watched your favourite AFL player bring the crowd to its feet with a goal from 40 metres out on the run, and wished that you could do the same?
Alternatively, as a spectator at local matches, or watching on TV, have you thought that you could show some of these young blokes a thing or two about how to kick straight, or handpass to a target!
A great opportunity to do just that will be yours if you play in the Celebrity/Business footy match at the Queen Elizabeth Oval on Monday, March 9.
This game is a part of the bushfire appeal family afternoon organised by the Bendigo Bombers Football Club and the Bendigo Football Netball League. The Celebrity/Business game will be a curtain-raiser to the main game between the Bombers and the League’s All-Stars team.
The Bombers are looking for people from local businesses to put their hands up and nominate to play in the lead-up game. Alternatively, businesses can nominate one or more people as players.
A cost of $100 per player is being levied and all proceeds will go to the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank’s bushfire appeal.
Apart from local nominees, the Celebrity/Business game will feature a number of former AFL stars including Matthew Knights, Essendon’s Senior Coach and ex-Bendigo coach, Adrian Hickmott, present Bendigo senior coach, Gary O’Donnell, Scott Camporeale, Matty Allan and former Bendigo Bomber Nick Carter.
Imagine the crowd’s reaction if you out-marked one of these guys, or were the key link in a sublime passage of play which gave your team the lead, or if you were a key part of the midfield taking the opposition apart. The bragging rights at work for the next week would be immense, to say nothing of being one-up on the kids at home! Any resultant aches and pains will be well worth the effort!
Apart from having a run on the ground, you will be making a big contribution to the bushfire appeal.
The match will start at 3pm and the final siren will be at 3.50pm so even if you are not in absolute peak fitness, it will not be too arduous.
The whole day is about providing family entertainment and an opportunity for the whole community to enjoy a great afternoon. Kids affected by the fires will get the chance to line up with Essendon players and the first bounce in the main game will be at 5PM and full catering will be available.
The main game is a key part of the club’s pre-season program, but the whole afternoon is designed to be fun and to provide real entertainment for everyone and everyone is working hard to ensure its success.
Nominations can be made by filling out the form in the Bendigo Advertiser or by contacting the Bendigo Bombers on (03) 5444 1737.
