Geelong must still be wondering what happened in the day that mattered most in September.
After dominating the home and away season and for that matter the lead-in finals, the VFL Cats were devoured by the VFL Hawks in the Grand Final.
It was a sobering end to a season that had been so outstanding.
During the off-season, Geelong has made significant changes to its list with last year’s captain Troy Selwood retiring, Jaxson Barham travelling overseas and then losing Ben Raidme to a season-ending injury.
Once again, Geelong has cherry-picked talent from the strong Geelong Football League to top up its VFL list and strong AFL list, and has an experienced new captain in Dom Gleeson.
It is hard to imagine Geelong could be as powerful as it was last season, but that is not to say that it won’t again find itself among the leaders in the competition.
