THE Borough led by just one-point at the final change but charged home to post a 28-point victory, 15.11 (101) to 10.13 (73).
Galea booted seven goals, including three in the final term, to finish on 55 for the season. That figure, one ahead of Frankston’s Michael Lourey, was enough to top the Peter Jackson VFL for the second consecutive year.
The gun full forward was well held by young defender Matt Dea for most of the afternoon, but found form in the final term to lead the Borough to a crucial win on the eve of the Legendairy Final Series.
John Baird (28 disposals) and Sam Pleming (26) were others to shine, as Josh Scipione chimed in with three goals.
Matt McDonough was Coburg’s best, collecting 24 disposals and using his strong body to impose himself on the contest. Sam Lonergan (27 possessions) Robin Nahas (25) were the other major contributors.
The Borough appeared on track for a relatively comfortable victory with a 20-point lead at half time.
But a four-goal onslaught from Coburg had the hosts in front and threatening to spoil the party.
Any nerves were soon eased through as Michael Dillion booted the opening goal of the final term before Galea took over.
The win ensures the Borough finish seventh on the Bailey Ladder's ladder and book a date with Collingwood next Saturday at North Port Oval at 2pm.
For Coburg, the loss marks the end of the club's alignment with Richmond with the both the Tigers and Coburg set to go it alone in season 2014.
