Gary Ayres and Andy Collins were part of one of football's great backlines.
When Hawthorn sides of the 80s and 90s were read out, they invariably started with A Collins, C Langford and G Ayres.
On Tuesday night, Port Melbourne coach Ayres and West Adelaide coach Collins (pictured either side of 1989 premiership teammate Greg Dear) match moves in a Foxtel Cup match at the MCG.
The winner will progress to the semi-finals in July.
Adding another pinch of spice to the mix, Chris Langford's brother Tommy is playing for Port and is a former West Adelaide player.
Ayres said he spoke to Collins a few months ago and his old backline buddy was quick to remind him about the Foxtel Cup fixture.
West is known as the Bloods and Ayres would like to draw a pint or two from his old teammate.
"It will be a bit of good-natured rivalry. It always is when you come up against an old teammate or even your old club," he said.
