Geelong VFL playing assistant coach Dom Gleeson has been announced as captain of the Peter Jackson VFL side to take on the WAFL.
Gleeson, 30, is a veteran of 166 VFL games for both Geelong and the Werribee Tigers in the VFL, and is no stranger to the role as captain, having led Werribee from 2009 til 2011.
“No doubt from an experience point of view, a player of Dom’s ilk is what we want as a coaching panel to be part of a side that represents and leads the Victorian Football League,” VFL coach Gary Ayres said.
“From a VFL point of view, he has been a fantastic servant of not only the Werribee Football Club, but also too has been a required player by Geelong as an AFL standalone club in the competition.
“He has been able to assist Matthew Knights from a coaching perspective so that is how high the Geelong Football Club rates Dom Gleeson and his performance over a number of years.
“To participate in a finals series, then to win the grand final (last year with Geelong) is testament to Dom’s professionalism, the way he prepares himself, and the way he plays.”
