The Williamstown Football Club has announced their coaching structure for the 2013 VFL season.
As the Club moves towards standalone status in 2014 with a list of up to 65 players, the Club was keen to increase its coaching resources under Senior Coach Peter German.
After going through an extensive selection process the Club has announced that Dale Bower and Kevin Tibaldi will be joining Adam Potter as Senior Line Coaches in 2013. With Adam Potter looking after the midfield, Dale Bower will be in charge of the backs whilst also assisting with opposition analysis, while Kevin Tibaldi will be responsible for the forwards at Senior level. Dale Bower arrives at the Club with an extensive coaching background. Most recently he was involved with the Scoresby Football Club where he took the side to consecutive final series in 2010-2011, including a Grand Final appearance in 2010. Prior to this, Bower coached Box Hill’s Development Side where his efforts were rewarded with the 2009 Development Premiership. Working as a pro-scout for the Western Bulldogs in 2012, Dale has an extensive knowledge of the VFL competition and will also be assisting with opposition analysis throughout the course of the season.
Kevin Tibaldi rejoins the Seagulls after a season with the Club in 2005. Kevin has a plethora of experience at VFL level having coached at both Werribee and Box Hill where he won the 2006 Development Grand Final with the Hawks. Since then, Kevin has coached at EFL side Norwood where he took the recently promoted side to the EFL Finals in 2012. Kevin’s coaching philosophy and structure made Norwood the best defensive side in the competition where they finished the 2012 home and away season on top of the ladder.
Football Manager Chris Dixon stated that the Club was delighted with the appointments of the two new senior line coaches. “Both Dale and Kevin are experienced at VFL level having been part of Clubs who experienced success with a focus on development. Both share similar stories of success in the Eastern Football League where they were coaching against sides like Balwyn, Vermont and Noble Park who have significantly larger spending on players. “Despite not having the spending power, both men took their Clubs into finals by placing an emphasis on the development of their younger players which fits in with the direction of the Williamstown Football Club,” Dixon said.
Also joining the Club will be ex Bulldog and Kangaroo player Sam Power who will be a specialist midfield skills coach helping out during training and on match days. Power is currently completing a law degree but is keen to remain in football and will be an asset for the midfield group given his extensive experience. Brett Henderson will once again coach the Williamstown Development side after performing outstandingly in his first season in charge. Brett will again take the reins of the side as well as overseeing the Liam Picken Academy in 2013. Matt Adolph will be looking after the Development Midfield again, with Alan Williams (forwards) and Theo Theodorou (defence) also joining the Club as Development Line Coaches. Dixon said that the Club was keen to bulk up its resources as it moves towards standalone status in 2014. “We recognised the fact we’ll be going from having 40 listed players to up to 65 in the space of two years so we wanted to bring in extra quality personnel to really assist in the development of our young playing list,” Dixon said. Williamstown have also announced that Club Legend and Games Record Holder Troy West will be on board in 2013, assisting the playing group at training and working in closely with the leadership group.
