First year player Brendan Lee has been awarded the Nick Carter Medallist, making him the 2012 Best and Fairest player for the Bendigo Gold Football Club.
The 25 year old was recruited by Essendon with pick number 78 in last year’s NAB AFL Rookie Draft.
Lee was a deserving winner, performing and thus polling in 11 of the 13 matches he played for the Bendigo Gold.
However, Lee did not stroll past the finish line easily with Ben Duscher, the 2011 Nick Carter Medallist, making a late run by polling in the top two for the final two rounds to finish only 5 votes behind.
The best and fairest award for Lee came just a week after discovering he had been delisted by Essendon.
Other award winners for the evening were:
Most Courageous Award: Henry Slattery
Team Player Award: Rick Ladson
Most Improved Player: Steven Stroobants
Graham Warfe Memorial Award (Best First Year Player): Ben McPhee
Best Clubman Award: Alan Stevens
