The Werribee Tigers will be flying the flag for the Peter Jackson VFL this Saturday when they compete in the Foxtel Cup Semi Finals at the Gabba.
The Tigers will be going head to head with the Morningside Panthers who compete in the NEAFL Northern Conference. The Panthers have disposed of Launceston and Port Adelaide to make it to this stage of the competition.
Werribee Coach Scott West identified in previous rounds that it was difficult to develop a good understanding of your opposition in the national competition. However, West has rallied the troops to assist him with this contest.
“We have been able to get a little bit of information on Morningside as we are fortunate that there are some people around the club who have friends and relatives up on the Gold Coast. So it’s been handy to get a bit of an understanding of how they are going and who are some of their key players.
“But again it’s difficult to really plan against the opposition that you haven't seen play before so it really comes down to way we approach the game with attitude and effort.”
The Tigers enter this Semi Final full of confidence after defeating the second placed Casey Scorpions in the Peter Jackson VFL last weekend. Their 78 point win kept them firmly placed in third position, now one win clear of opponents.
Werribee look to be fielding their strongest side this weekend when they take on Morningside. Many teams have opted to rest players during Foxtel Cup matches to ensure their regular state league matches are not hampered. However, at this stage of the competition Werribee have taken a strong stance to be as competitive as possible by naming a very similar team to their last VFL match.
This weekend will bring upon the first interstate contest for the Werribee Tigers when they travel to sunny Queensland. West believes this in itself will provide the Club with a fascinating test.
“There is no doubt the travelling is a factor for us because a lot of our guys wouldn’t have experienced it much before so it will be a great challenge to see how we respond to it.
“We as a club will address it with the players but won’t be making a huge fuss over it as I think the more you make of it, the more the players stress over it,” West said.
Opponents, Morningside have met this challenge and overcome it in their last contest against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.
The Peter Jackson VFL have highlighted that they are a force to be reckoned with, by boasting a side both Semi Finals.
