The Peter Jackson VFL starts this weekend and for Port Melbourne’s 21 game undefeated season and premiership, it carries on into the 2012 season against Frankston as Dale Fenney reports.
With both teams training hard over the pre season it is shaping up to be a good game down at Frankston Oval 2:00pm Sunday.
Plenty has changed down at Port Melbourne in the off season. Jim ‘Frosty’ Miller Medallist Patrick Rose left Port Melbourne for Wodonga Raiders and he joins another 7 senior players from last year’s premiership side that will not be seen at the Borough in 2012.
Shane Valenti continued his great VFL career in 2011 winning back to back J.J. Liston Trophy’s, and who knows, he might be able to complete the hat trick in 2012.
Frankston’s Luke Clark (24 Goals in 2011) is two games away from his 50th Peter Jackson VFL game and will need to be a key target for the Dolphins again in 2012. Frankston’s Best and Fairest winner for 2011 Mark Baguley has gone to the Essendon FC for 2012, which will leave a hole in teh middle for Frankston, especially with the departure to WA of key bigman Russ Gabriel.
Simon Goosey has said in the preseason that he has a great group of talented players and thinks they will improve for season 2012.
There will be no better test in round one that taking on the reigning premiers to see where the Dolphins sit for 2012.
Note: Due to an Ironman comp down in Frankston, please beware of road closures.
