Geelong v Collingwood at Simonds Stadium – Saturday March 17
Round 2 start to season:
Collingwood will have an extra week of preseason with the bye in round 1. The Magpies kick off their season in round two when they take on fellow AFL stand alone side Geelong at Simonds Stadium – with only 4 points separating the sides in their only encounter of 2011. With both teams having the bye in round 1, this weekend’s practice match will give each side a good indication of how much improvement they might need in a fortnights time when they open their season.
Collingwood’s Draw:
Collingwood have been blessed with a good draw for the first few rounds of the 2012 Peter Jackson VFL Season. Their third round fixture sees them host North Ballarat at Victoria Park on Saturday 7th April. From Collingwood’s four wins last season, Geelong and North Ballarat made up half of those victories. Collingwood need to take advantage of this positive draw and kick the season off with a bang. The Magpies have recruited a mix of experienced and upcoming players for their VFL list this year, so expect more depth in their list with their AFL listed players as well.
Club’s Comment:
We as a Club are very happy with how our pre season has played out leading into Round 1. We have had a huge turnover from last year with only 4 players remaining for 2012.
Collingwood have a very young AFL list and as a result we have recruited quite a few mature and experienced footballers to our VFL side to assist in the growth of these players.
We haven’t created any statistical goals for the VFL Team this year, but we do have an aim to be more competitive as a whole, in all four quarters of footy
