The AFL Season Opener this Saturday between GWS and the Sydney Swans will showcase the pathway that has been developed for athletes to transfer through the Peter Jackson VFL into the AFL competition.
Tim Mohr, a recruit from the Casey Scorpions, will be lining up for Greater Western Sydney after performing well throughout their pre season and NAB Cup matches.
Mohr is 22 years of age and originates from Tasmania. The 195cm tall defender demonstrated his impressive speed and strength to AFL recruiters in last year’s Peter Jackson VFL competition, where he took out Casey’s Best & Fairest Award.
Tim will be lining up on the Half Back Flank this Saturday in Greater Western Sydney’s local derby against the Swans.
Steve Clifton has been selected by GWS as an emergency for Round 1. Clifton is a three-time Premiership player for the North Ballarat Roosters. In his time at the Club he was the recipient of the JJ Liston Trophy, awarded to the Best & Fairest player within the Peter Jackson VFL competition. GWS selected Steve with pick number one in the 2010 AFL Rookie Draft.
Best of luck to Tim in his AFL debut this Saturday night.
