AFTER what appeared to the end of an era for triple reigning premier North Ballarat, it has instead become a year of opportunity for the Roosters under wonder coach Gerard FitzGerald.
FitzGerald, who is regarded as one of the finest state league coaches in the system, has re-shaped a young team to be in the top four and a premiership threat once again; something that didn’t seem credible with such a large turnover of experienced players and staff.
FitzGerald puts the turnaround in form – from when they slumped to second bottom of the ladder after round four to now in third position and placing well for another shot at the title – down to its successful model that is aligned to North Melbourne.
Port Melbourne is outright favourite to take out the flag after being undefeated for the season so far. Williamstown is also highly-fancied but will depend up on if its AFL affiliate the Western Bulldogs can remain injury-free.
