Almost $17,000 has been raised for local charities through North Ballarat Football Club’s Gold Coin Entry Program this year. This is an increase of more than $1,000 on last year’s total and more than $2,500 on the 2006 total.
In its third year, the Club’s Gold Coin Entry Program, conducted at each of the Roosters’ home games, raised a grand total of $16,692.95 for 10 local organisations this year. This brings the total raised for local organisations over the three year period to almost $47,000.
As well as raising much needed funds, the game days also provided an opportunity for the organisations to raise awareness of their cause both in the lead-up to the game and on the day.
In commenting on the program, North Ballarat CEO Mark Patterson said that this year’s record figure is something for all involved in the program to be extremely proud of.
“The club is pleased to be involved in a project that has allowed organisations such as Life Education Ballarat & District, United Way Ballarat Community Fund and the North Ballarat Knights football team raise awareness and much needed funds at the Roosters’ home games," he said.
"We were also proud to once again support Ballarat Health Services and assist them to raise over $3,700 to purchase medical equipment used in the treatment of prostate cancer and to raise awareness of men’s health issues in regional areas.
“We thank the Ballarat community and a number of our partners for supporting the program this year. We are also grateful for the support of the Club’s members and supporters who got behind the nominated charities this season. Our crowds have increased substantially from 2007 and we look forward to implementing the initiative again in season 2009.”
Each of the Roosters’ 10 home games this year were allocated to a different local organisation and game patrons only had to contribute a gold coin to obtain entry. All money raised went directly to the organisation.
The club will hold a ‘Thank-you Lunch’ for all organisations involved in the program this year at the North Ballarat Sports Club on Tuesday 2 September from 12pm.
Expressions of interest from local charitable organisations are also being accepted for the 2009 season. The successful charities will be announced prior to the start of the 2009 VFL season.
