2012 VFL Fothergill-Round Medallist Dean Towers will this weekend make his long awaited AFL debut for Sydney.
Drafted at pick 22 in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft from North Ballarat, Towers impressed at the Roosters, gaining VFL State team selection, a spot in the VFL Team of the Year and the prestigious Fothergill Round Medal for the best U23 player in the competition.
This year in the NEAFL Towers has been used mainly up forward, with a three goal performance Round 16 gaining him a spot in the senior side, avoiding being named as an emergency as he had on three previous occasions over the last year and a half.
Just two games back from rib injury that sidelined for three weeks, Towers will take to the field against Carlton at the SCG and is looking forward to the opportunity.
“There is never a good time for an injury and it was definitely bad timing.
“But I got back into it and got that consistency back up and now I’ve found myself in the side,” Towers told the Sydney website.
“I suppose you just set new goals every year and I’ve just been working to achieve those every year.
“This has been a long-term goal and it’s taken a while to get to here, so it’s been great.”
