We take a brief look at the match ups in round 5 of Peter Jackson VFL action
WERRIBEE TIGERS VS GEELONG
Werribee Tigers and Geelong meet under lights on Friday evening. Werribee overcame a disappointing round 3 encounter against Box Hill Hawks – where they were defeated by 40 points underlights – by crushing TSL side Burnie last Saturday in the Foxtel Cup first round by 133 points. Ben Warren returned to form after a quite last round with 5 goals, and he will need fire against a Geelong defence that have kept their three opponents this year to under 12 goals each week, and sees the return of key back Andrew McLean. Down the other end the Cats have averaged 14 goals a game, with Mitch Brown in good form last weekend with 5 goals, and Josh Walker providing some high flying highlights up forward..

BOX HILL HAWKS VS COLLINGWOOD
Box Hill Hawks meet Collingwood in the round five ABC TV game. Box Hill Hawks challenged Port Melbourne for a half last week, but then found what the standard to aspire to in 2012 is in the second half. Collingwood utilise the experience from some senior Magpies against the Northern Blues to record their first win of the season, with the likes of Nathan Brown, Simon Buckley and Alan Didak putting up their hand for AFL selection with their sides recent injuries. Box Hill Hawks had a strong side last week, but struggled to find avenues to goal with only Tom Schneider and Cameron Bruce their multiple goal kickers on the day. Their six goals kickers for the afternoon was a big step down from their 11 different goal kickers the previous week during their first win of the season.
The Peter Jackson VFL will see a curtain raiser of a different kind leading into the ABC TV match of the round between the Box Hill Hawks and Collingwood FC. The Whitehorse Colt Youth Girls will be taking to the field against the Kew Rovers Youth Girls team on Saturday at Box Hill City Oval before the Peter Jackson VFL game begins.

BENDIGO VS NORTHERN BLUES
Bendigo and Northern Blues will meet at Queen Elizabeth Oval, with both teams aligned clubs Essendon and Carlton also meeting on the day. Bendigo provided Casey with their first loss of the season last week, with the Gold line up getting the most out of Wayne Schultz, Dean Putt, Brendan Lee and Luke Davis. The Blues must be questioning what is happening during their final term this year, for the second time this season leading at three quarter time, only to finish the game without the four points. Brock McLean has finally got the Carlton call up after impressive VFL form, which will elave a hole in the Blues midfield for this match. Robbie Warnock is back for his second game for Northern, and it will be a great battle and test for Gold’s ruck Putt.

PORT MELBOURNE VS NORTH BALLARAT
Port Melbourne host North Ballarat on Saturday, with the two teams experiencing extremely different formlines this season. Port Melbourne has continued their winning run – now at 25 – and will be looking to try and extend it against a Roosters side desperate for their second win of the season. The Roosters have been speaking in the local Ballarat press this week about trying to bring an end to the Borough’s streak, but they will need improvement from their back six this week, who saw 10 second half goals sail through versus Williamstown. Height seems to be a deficiency with North Ballarat, and despite a few key tall departures from Port in the the offseason, they have been able to replace them and find more versatility in the likes of Ryan Gale and Adrian Bonaddio. With the likes of Geelong, Coburg and Sandringham showing improvement this year, the Roosters need to find that winning feeling soon.

FRANKSTON VS COBURG TIGERS
This Sunday will see Coburg Tigers take on Frankston. Frankston fans will be looking forward to this contest, as over the last two years, Coburg has been the only side the Dolphins have defeated – recording all of their three wins in 2010/2011 against the Tigers. Despite their ladder positions and form over recent years, Coburg has struggled against the Dolphins, especially at Frankston Oval. The last time Coburg won at Frankston was round 10, 2006. New Frankston recruit Peter Davenport will debut this weekend, and the senior side will have more tall timber with the inclusion of James Orr. Coburg will be still enjoying their upset win over Sandringham in round 3, and will be hoping to finally overcome the Dolphins on their home patch, ending their 6 year drought.

SANDRINGHAM VS WILLIAMSTOWN
A top four spot is on the line when Sandringham and Williamstown meet on Sunday. Sandringham has had an extra week to feel the pain of their round 3 loss to Coburg Tigers, and will be keen to bounce back to the winners list. The Zebras will be aided by the return from injury of a number of Saints players, including Jason Gram and James Gwilt. The Zebras have been well led by their midfield in the early rounds of the season, and the battle of new recruits Adam Cockie and Seagulls Jamie McNamara will be a highlight. Williamstown led from start to finish against North Ballarat last week, and were well serviced by their strong midfield and imposing talls up forward. The Seagulls will add another tall this weekend with Jordan Roughead returning to the lineup, and he will add to the depth of Tom Hill and Jake Redpath who were amongst the imposing forward half for Williamstown last week.
