Rover Glen Carrick - a vital midfield cog for the Coburg Tigers Reserves in its undefeated home and away season - has received the A.Todd Medal.
At just 174cm and 70kg, the lightly framed midfielder was a cut above in the VFL reserves this season. An uncompromising character, Carrick does his best work at the coal face.
The tenacious rover reads the play well, is noted for his all out attack on the ball and opponents and knows only one pace – flat out.
A fierce competitor, Carrick finds plenty of the football and he has the ability to play 100 senior VFL games. This year, his consistency in the reserves was again rewarded and he played nine senior games.
"I was in and out of the seniors all year and it was a really tough year to my spot. I was trying my best all year," Carrick reflected.
"I just love going back to the reserves and playing with all the boys.
"I've got some real close mates there now. I just love playing footy."
The 23-year-old hails from Gisborne and joined the Coburg Tigers in 2007. He said he was shocked to receive the honour.
"It's very unexpected," Carrick told the J.J. Liston Trophy count.
Last year, he played 18 reserves matches including Coburg’s Grand Final win over Port Melbourne. This year, the Tgers remained undefeated for 16-straight matches but it all cam crashing down in the finals.
"It was pretty disappointing," Carrick said.
He said new senior coach Jade Rawlings had been a positive force.
"He's a great bloke," Carrick said.
"He's more of a mate than a coach I think and I really enjoy playing footy under him."
