In Round 12 VFL action today, the winners were: Williamstown, Footscray, Collingwood and a draw between Frankston & Essendon.
Footscray and Williamstown consolidated their spots in the top four, Collingwood climbed to fifth and Essendon missed a golden chance to be sitting inside the top 8 at the end of the round, unable to find a much needed goal in the dying stages, but were still able to come away with two points.
Let below a recap of all four games today:
Footscray moves to second
Footscray has recorded its sixth win on the trot, with a 29-point win over North Ballarat. The win ended the Roosters six game winning run, and propelled the Bulldogs to second spot on the Bailey Ladders VFL ladder.
The first half was a scrap between the two sides, with only four goals scored and neither team could master the blustery conditions at Simonds Stadium. While North Ballarat led by a goal at quarter time, Footscray only scored their first major in the second term after nine straight behinds, giving them the lead.
With a five point lead at half time, Footscray ensured a trademark Roosters revival was not possible restricting them to just six behinds in the second half, while adding four of their own. Two from Brett Goodes in the third term helped set up the win for the Bulldogs, as his former club were unable to find the goals.
Brett Goodes was the only multiple goal scorer for the afternoon with two, and was among the best for the Bulldogs with Tom Campbell, Jordan Russell (24 disposals), Lin Jong and Christian Howard.
Nick Rippon was best for the Roosters, with Oliver Tate and Liam Hoy in defence.

Seagulls better in the breeze
Williamstown enters its Round 13 bye for the FOXTEL Cup with a percentage boosting win against Casey Scorpions, defeating them by 80 points.
The Seagulls made the most of the breeze in the first term and third terms, keeping the Scorpions scoreless while adding 14 goals of their own – seven in each quarter. Dylan Conway was the star up forward adding three in the first and two in the third for his match high five goals.
While the home side did not score against the breeze, adding a major with it also proved difficult. In the second term Anthony Anastasio added his third goal to extended Williamstown’s lead to 56 points. Jake Best scored the home sides’ first goal at the 25 minute mark of the second term, and they entered half time trailing by 49 points after a textbook defensive quarter by the visitors.
Trailing by 93 points at three quarter time, a three goal final term was unable to stop Casey recording its lowest score ever against the Seagulls.
Conway led the way with five goals, Anastasio four and Ben Davies two. Ed Carr, Nick Meese in the ruck and Davies were the best for Williamstown. Sam Blease was the only multiple goal kicker for Casey with two (23 disposals), with Jay Kennedy Harry (31), Luke Taspott (30 and Mitch Clisby (23) their best.

Nothing separates Frankston and Essendon
Frankston has held on for a thrilling draw against a fast finishing Essendon – the Dolphins second tied score of the season.
Leading by 39 points at three quarter time, the Dolphins had no answers for the Bombers use of the corridor in the final term, as they withstood an avalanche of final term inside 50s (19-2) to come out of the match with two points for the draw.
Until the 31 minute mark of the final term, Frankston had led all day, setting up the match with a four goal to nil first term with the breeze.
While Frankston kicked 8 goals to 7 with the breeze, the most telling score proved to be Essendon’s third term goal to Ben Duscher – the only one against the breeze to the bay end of the ground all afternoon.
During the third term Josh Newman kicked two goals and Michael Lourey added his first to see the home side out by six goals at the final change. Ben Cavarra had been damaging in the middle, and Josh Tynan gave the Dolphins plenty of run from half back.
In the final term Duscher stood up for the Bombers, and his side continued to push forward. After Duscher put his side within six points early in time one, they were unable to find the major needed to put them infront, as they registered five behind in a row, with a rushed behind finally tying the scores.
J.Newman kicked three for Frankston, and was among the best along with Cavarra (29 disposals), Tynan (28) and Riley Heddles in defence.
Duscher was the best for the Bombers with two goals, and was joined by Dan Coughlan, Shaun Edwards and Ariel Steinberg as the better players.

Regional win for Magpies
Collingwood return from a successful visit to Morwell, recording a 44-point win over Richmond in their regional clash.
The Magpies put in a better first term than they did in the previous round, kicking five goals to one to hold a handy 27 point lead at quarter time. Pat Karnezis returned from injury and helped the Magpies with more options to goal.
The second quarter saw the ruckman start impacting the scoreboard at either end, with Orren Stephenson and Brodie Grundy both kicking two for the term, but it was still the Magpies by 30 points at half time.
While Richmond closed the gap to 24 points early in the third term, it was the closest they would get for the second half, as Collingwood took control and led by as much as 47 points in the final term, before the 44-point final margin.
Lachlan Ferguson kicked five for the winners - four in the second half - with Caolon Mooney 3, Jack Hellier, Corey Gault and Brodie Grundy kicking two each. Hellier, Tim Broomhead and Peter Yagmoor were the best for the Magpies. Ben Kennedy who has been in the best each week for Collingwood recently did not take his place in the VFL side.
Richmond had four multiple goal kickers in Stephenson, Sam Lloyd, Todd Banfield and Nathan Gordon kicking two, with Ed Barlow, Daniel Jackson and Nick Wynne their best.
